I prefer the F150 F70 LaFerrari to the 918 and P1. I think it looks better (especially in white), sounds better, and is overall the most desirable of the three. I have a history of unpopular preferences in cars, such as the F50 over the F40. I guess I just have a thing for V12s. Anyways, goodnight Oppo.

I also prefer LaFerrari over the other two. I think the name is stupid and I think the 918 looks better, but LaFerrari has more soul than the other two and by all accounts is a total doll on the street while also being a feisty vixen on the track. The P1 is...trying too hard. The 918 is a blunt instrument using computers to do literally everything. At least, that's how it's been described.

I agree. I respect the 918 for being pretty useable, but I don't get the P1 at all. Not much faster if at all, way less driveable, way less liveable. No stuff like regen or 4 wheel steering that make it a big advancement. Like a Hennessy Venom GT with rabid fanboys.

1. I also like the LaFerrari the most

2. It looks good in white, but I still like red most.

3. You're crazy if you like the F50 more than the F40 :P

I'm not alone in my preference of the F50 http://jalopnik.com/f40-1657608007

Could you explain your assertion that "the P1 is...trying too hard?"

Yeah I know, I saw that before.

I just say that because I love the F40, and even though the F50 is an awesome car, there's no way I'd consider it better than the F40.

The P1 is trying to be the successor to the F1, and in that task it is a categorical failure. It is totally conventional in layout, the styling is humdrum stuff that's derived from the MP4-12, and there is competition that actually beats McLaren at the game it invented: to be a supercar that is just as streetable as it is trackable.

The 918 has been said to be more sorted around the track and around town, and LaFerrari is more sorted than even that car while also being both lighter and rated higher on power. The P1...is a glorified MP4. That's even how it's been talked about, just as a really good MP4-12C. Yes, it was a little bit faster than the 918, but the package you get is a raw deal compared to what Porsche is offering.

At the end of the day, I would not say "no" if offered a P1. But if I'm spending money, then it has to go to one of the horse-branded companies.

Why is the criteria you are using to say that the P1 is failure in comparison to the F1? What do you mean by "conventional in layout?" Concerning styling, that's very subjective. I understand this point.

I can understand these points.

I'm not attempting to disagree with your opinion, I'm just attempting to understand it and the reasons behind it.

I suppose I should start with my personal definition of a supercar. To me, a supercar has to be just as good as a daily as it is as a track car. It makes no compromises.

The F1 is what redefined that entire genre of cars with that definition. It was meant to be a livable street car first and foremost, but it was also very good at going very fast around a road course. It was sensational, and everybody has been building their cars in that vein ever since. Well, except Lamborghini; they're crazy. The P1 fails to redefine its category in any way, and thus it cannot be a true F1 successor. Instead, the P1 is just doing what everybody else is doing, and not in any novel or interesting way. They weren't even first to market with the hybrid supercar thing, Porsche was. The Porsche is also far more livable as a daily driver than the P1. Even LaFerrari is less spartan inside, and makes less of a din with a more linear throttle response and with a transmission that's equally at home on some B-road or at the track.

The "conventional layout" I am referring to is the 2-seat arrangement. The F1 had a unique 1+2 arrangement that made the car even more useful as a daily driver. As an owner of a 2-seat car, I can't tell you how many times it would have been nice to have just one more seat. I don't often need 4, but I would love to have 3. The P1, just has two seats. It does nothing to really push the boundaries of car design, which it has to if it wants to be an F1 successor.

tl;dr: the hype and legacy for the P1 were too much for it to ever live up to.

Yeah, sorry it took me three replies to get it into a format that makes sense. It's been awhile since I've had to enumerate why I'm not a fan of the P1.
