"Old-Busted-Hotness" (old-busted-hotness)

Finally got to ride my powered bike today, after the last of the parts came in. The engine is a HuaSheng 49cc 4-stroke Honda clone. And what a damn hoot it was, tooling along at 20 mph (break-in period, it's got more) feeling like Marlon Brando, Elvis and Dennis Hopper all rolled into one semi-antique package. I haven't had this much fun since I was a wee mite.
Come spring I'm gonna ride the hell out of it.

Whoa, Haha.
How fast can that thing go you think?

If you don't mind me asking, how much does it cost to work up something like that? I always though it'd be cool, but haven't ever looked into it.

Depends on which engine you select, and how you want to dress it. Engine/trans kits start around $129. I got mine here: http://www.bikeberry.com/gas-engine-kit…
But after adding the fat-man seat, new bars, new tires, rear rack, I'm about $400 into it. The bike I already had. Totally worth it.

Probably faster than I want to go. I've heard 35 mph is possible. But riding at 15 feels fast.

Cool! That's awesome. Years ago(27!) as a 14yr old I built a bracket and mounted a weed whacker 2 stroke 50cc engine to my bmx, the gearing was to high to take off from a stand still but it went 70 kmh flat out if you assumed the racing position! Man I had some fun back then. Thanks for posting your bike and bringing back some great memories of happy times.

get some good brakes on that thing. Like 20 dollar mountain bike v-brakes and levers. Those cantilever style brakes are known for not being able to stop very well.

This is so cool! Would love to learn more about your build and any suggestions.

Here's mine.......I have over a grand wrapped up in mine including the bike (500 bucks), the motor and the friction drive kit(motor plus friction drive unit 500+bucks). The motor is a Mitsubishi 43cc two stroke that will run flat out for hours on end.
With the size friction roller I have in it, the top speed is about 40 and it cruises very nicely at 30-32 mph. I've had cheaper motors, but the Chinese stuff doesn't last- this Mitsu motor was over 400 bucks when I bought it a couple years ago.......money well spent IMHO :-)
I've made several modifications since I took this pic, I installed a secondary fuel tank-it will go over 125 miles with a full load of fuel. It's probably on the wrong side of the law as far as motor assisted bicycles go (because of the top speed), but with the rear mounted motor and the added bulk of the luggage rack to camouflage it...it doesn't look like the typical motor powered bicycle.
I've never had a problem with law enforcement. Whenever I see a cop coming up behind me or in front of me-I slow down, lay off the motor and just make sure I'm pedaling. Been passed by lots of cops, never ever been pulled over.

How do you like that fork? Been thinking about upgrading.
125 miles is a good range, but that's a long ride! I could probably get that with the optional 3.5L tank.

It's just a basic air/oil Rockshox with 3 inches of travel.
Longest ride I was on I did last year, rode from York up to the west shore of Harrisburg on all back roads and back through Camp Hill, Mechanicsburg, past Pinchot State Park and into West York on Rt74.
The whole ride took me 6+ hours....took my time and stopped quite a few times to take pics and eat a couple times....did a little over 75 miles and still had plenty of fuel left. I think my average speed was around 12 mph, but when I was moving- I did 20-25 mph most of the ride.
I took extra 2 stroke oil just in case I had to get more gas though......

not to resurrect a dead thread.. but reading this made me double take, as I live in mechanicsburg! i don't have a motor-powered bike... but there are surely lots of pretty good routes around the area to ride my human-powered bike!

Yup, there are a *lot* of good routes to use on a motor assisted bike......I had my knee replaced last year and don't ride it much any more, but it's still a blast :-)
