There's just something damn impressive about a full size fastback coupe. Like the Ford Gran Torino, or the Dodge Charger, this 1968 Chevrolet Impala has all the style of the smaller pony cars of the era, but trades speed for swagger. This super-duper clean example was spotted in Toronto. It was absolutely ruling this street corner. Normally I don't get too excited about usual cliche shiny big wheels/old car look, but I'll give it up here: these chrome 5-spokes have the right amount of old-school Cragar style and look just about perfect.

Beautiful. It reminds me that there's a black-and-chrome sedan around here with straight pipes and gen 1 camaro rallye wheels.

Very nice. A friend of mine had one with a 427 back when they were considered just crappy old cars. Lots and lots of space! I would argue, though, that the Gran Torino was a mid-size like the Chevelle and not a full size.

I think you're right, the Torino does line up more with the Chevelle, if you're a kid standing on a dealership lot in 1968. So maybe the Ford counterpart to this Impala would be a Galaxie 500?

And perhaps a better Dodge reference would have been the Monaco:

That's what I'd go with but there actually wasn't a Gran Torino until '72. Before that they were just "Torino" and were a trim level on the Fairlane. A '72 Gran Torino was my first car which is why I know they were not full sized. The back seat was actually kind of cramped compared to the REALLY big cars of the era.

I think the Charger was considered full sized but I'm not that versed in MOPARs of the era.

Oh, that makes me miss my 68' Impala.

Flat grey, pinstripes, red leather interior.. Too bad Colorado is not too fond of a full-size fastback.

Actually the Charger is considered mid sized like the Chevelle. It was a "B-body" in Mopar speak. The really big Chrysler cars were the C-bodies like the Newport and Monaco
