Truth be told, with most street tires found on cars like the Tercel (and most civics!) they have to launch from such a low RPM to avoid wheelspin (or in the Tercel's case, I doubt the driver could launch at all) that having 200HP from 3000RPM like a malaise V8 is a MUCH better option than 200HP from 7000RPM.

This is true; skinny economy tires have an appalling level of grip. Release the clutch quickly at 3500 rpm on my girfriends 50hp(!) Micra and it'll spin the tyres a fair bit. She does not like it when I do that.

You should do it more often. Micra's have wheel barrow tires. I roll 225's in my Cavalier. I am 195's for now though because winter.

The micra has 155s. Saying that my car has the same width tyres but lazy diesel torque means you're rarely going to light them up. There is video of a car like mine doing a pretty impressive burnout though.

Nice. the 225's mean on loose gravel my car is all over the place like crazy.

The only gravel I encounter in my car is a car park near where we sometimes walk the dog and I'm too busy sliding the car on the handbrake to notice how it handles :D Also I found that burnout video, car is horribly riced but pretty similar to mine otherwise.

Someone went to the effort of a drivetrain swap on a cavalier. I like it, one hell of a sleeper.

Yeah. When you hear "cavalier" you don't expect RWD V8. lol.

Not only that but some Tercels came with as low as a 145-section 13" wheel. A modern Toyota prius, which has super low-grip economy tires is still at 205, 40% larger. Even then, an early 2001 prius still has a 175. A 2015 Micra has 175s I think.
Combine that with front end lift on acceleration, torque multiplied by the small wheel diameter, and you have a recipe for launching like shit.

Who's surprised that the Tercel owner turned out to be a creepy sex offender? Nobody?
