A few months ago the little plastic tab holding the shelf into the door of my fridge snapped off. Being a cheapskate, I just screwed on a little metal strip and bent it round to form a new tab. It wasn't really visible, so when my housemate walked in just in time, he saw what looked like me giving a plastic shelf a few taps with a hammer and then say 'there, that should fix it' before slotting it back into the fridge.
