I'm torn between getting a XBone and PS4.
I have a little bias toward XBone even though I havn't played with it. I used to have the 360 and it has Forza.
I genuinely dont know why people are hating on XBone. But the general disdain toward the console is giving making me second thoughts.
Oppos, what do will I "lose out" on if I get the XBone?
Update: Thanks for the response guys! Im sticking with the XBone :)
I'm sure there are better options - Project car, PC, Non-working project car hooked up as racing steering for custom PC (So much want lol)....
But this makes sense for me right now.
Update 2: OMG Racing Wheel / pedal / chair set-up!!!!!!
Any Oppos have this for XBone? Which games support this? (I need to justify spending $400 lol)

Or if you absolutely need a gaming console, buy (or preferably build) a PC w/ a G27 steering wheel and get iRacing.

Do you like Halo?
If so, then the PS4 doesn't even exist.

If you've owned an XBox before and were generally satisfied with the experience, buy the XBone. The "hate" comes from weaker graphics power (which is true) and people who don't realize that many of the missteps that MS made at launch have been addressed..
Personally, I'm not sold on either one yet. The WiiU keeps looking better and better though.

Lol I don't. I don't game a whole lot....
I love GTAV. But its on most consoles.
I like racing games. Like, not love.
I want to try new games. Thats all I want out of a console.

XBone has a better (after using both of them) controller, Forza and the Halo series, and nifty integration with Windows 8/Windows Phone 8, lots of voice features, and you get a free game or two every month that you have Xbox live, which you can keep even after your subscription expires.
PS4 has better specs (which amounts to nothing other than bragging rights since games made for both will be made for the lowest common denominator), free multiplayer, really nifty integration with Sony phones and the PSP, free multiplayer, and you can pay for access to a library of free games which all go away when your subscription expires.
It's really a toss-up, and mostly comes down to "if you want integration with your other devices, what platform are you using now?" and "do you want Forza/Halo or Gran Turismo?"

Full Disclosure: I run a 360, Xbone, and a Mac...
The only true problem with the Xbone is that game installations completely rob you of memory. Only 2 games so far (I'm slow at buying games) and over 28% of my 500GB is used. And I don't even have DLC. Hwat...
Admittedly, the Xbone was horrible at first. You had no control over memory (it deleted your data at its own discretion), it refused to detect external media, and a whole lot of other crap that made it very crippled (especially at that price tag). But it's so much better now.

There this cool place called the internet, you're using it right now, it can give you a solid starting point of knowledge on how to do most things on a car.

A good gaming PC + steering would be more expensive than a console + steering.
It would be better, but I don't intend to spend more than $500 on everything total.
With black friday deals, I can do this with consoles....

Well I can tell you the Xbox controller feels so much more better than the PS4 controller (If your hands are big). The triggers vibrate when appropriate, like if your brakes lock up, or you're shooting your gun.

It really comes down to the exclusive games for each system. Want to play Horizon or Halo, Xbox. Want to play Last of Us or Rachet and Clank go with PS4. Want to play GTA or Destiny, either will work!

Look at the title exclusives on both systems, and see which of those truly appeal to you. If you play online, check with your friends who you want to play with which system they are one. And finally, wait for the best deals you can get for either systems. This is the exact methodology I used when I was deciding, and I got a PS4 as a result. Never been more satisfied.
Don't be swept by the hating/fanboying for either systems. Do your research, and make an informed decision instead.

Depends what do you want it for?
If you just want a cheap box to play games on for the next 10 years or so then buy the one which provides the best bundle value atm.
If you want your box to be a media centre as well then buy the Xbox One. The multitasking alone puts it on another level compared to the Wii U and PS4.
A few other things to consider:
The PS4 has PS+ going for it which has been insane value money.
Both Controllers are great to use but the PS4 pad has a life between 4-6 hours compared to the XB1 pad of 30+.
The PS4 is much smaller.
The Xbox One is much quieter and cooler.
The Xbox One has a power brick the PS4 doesn't.
The Xbox One is updated much more regularly, substantially and more reliably.
The PS4 can swap out internal hardrive only where as the Xbox One is external hardrive only for additional storage.
The PS4 install times are significantly faster.
The PS4 camera is pointless.
The kinect is good if you plan to use it (voice comands and dance games).
And I think that covers everything. I myself went for the Xbox because Forza, Halo, controller and multitasking in case you are wondering.

Actually, GTA V on PS4 has better graphics, more people, more cars, and more wildlife than the XBone version. But other than the few toned-down games the Wii shared with the 360 and PS3, I think that's the only example of such a drastic difference in the same game across two same-gen consoles.

Multiplayer isn't free anymore on PS4 and the phone apps are platform agnostic on both and you lose your games with GWG when it expires.

Actually the PS4 has more grass and stronger lens flare then the XB1 otherwise they are the same game. Same amount of people, cars, animals, fps and resolution.

My brief pros and cons:
XB1: pros, has forza and halo if you like it (im not that fussed on it). Cons: dont like the controller and exclusives arent to my tastes.
PS4: pros, will likely have the far better exclusives library over the next few years, excellent controller
cons, psn a bit iffy sometimes, could argue the game library isnt very good at the moment, no big racing game yet.

I hate how the sony controller feels in my hand, XBOX controller feels like it was made for my hands. And XBOX controller seemed to be made for driving games with the trigger style top buttons, instead of the sony push buttons.

Xbox one has better console exclusives at the moment (Forza 5, Forza Horizon, Halo) and I love mine but if you told me I could only have one, the PS4 is what I would choose. Every multi-platform game runs appreciably better on it, high resolutions, the interface is cleaner, etc.

Instead of spending $400 on a console, spend $600 on a PC and a corded 360 controller. Connect said PC to your TV. Download Steam. Now you can buy games for super cheap!
Seriously, I got GTA4 for $7, Saints Row 3 for $12, and Saints Row 4 for $15.

I bought a PS4 on launch day because the whole always on, Kinect required, constant internet connection Xbone was bullshit, especially since I had limited internet service at home at that time. After about a year with the PS4 I traded it on an Xbone a few weeks ago and don't regret it one bit.
The PS4 exclusives didn't really do it for me and some of the Xbone ones do. Throw in the familiarity with the controls and system behavior and I really prefer the Xbone. If you've used a 360 heavily it will be a lot easier to navigate the Xbone than it is the PS4. Throw in stuff like the Xbone media remote and the fact that you need to use the controller for media on the PS4 and it is a much more user friendly system IMO.
The other thing to consider is online friends. If you do a lot of online gaming, go with the system your online friends are using. This is actually what finally tipped the scales and led to me trading in the PS4. I got good internet service and started playing 360 online. The guys I play with are planning to upgrade to Xbone in the future, so I figured I would do it now when I could get good trade in on the PS4.
I don't regret buying the PS4 and it is a solid system. But coming from the 360 the user interface just felt a bit wonky and the controller layout felt weird to me. Throw in online friends planning on going Xbone and it was an easy decision to make the switch. But really both are good systems and you can't go wrong either way.
Rereading your post, you won't lose out on anything by choosing the Xbone over the PS4.

I'm on the same fence as you. But I'm leaning more towards the Xbox because of things like DLNA support and integration with cable TV (and for cordcutters, OTA signals once you've added some other hardware). Plus the Snap feature is gimmicky but potentially useful, and once you can get past shouting commands at your TV, Kinect actually looks like it does some cool stuff when it comes to interacting with your media. Like you can just say "Xbox watch NBC" and it'll go to that channel if you run your cable box through the console via the HDMI-in.
Xbox also has HBO Go access, which the PS4 does not yet have. They both have Hulu and Netflix and Amazon Prime Video. Xbox also does Skype, which I guess is a nice plus. I have family all over so I'd definitely use that, but others might not care.
Mainly, I'm swayed because I had planned to buy a roku and a NAS, an HDMI switch and some other equipment to fill out my home theater, so I was already over $200 down this rabbit hole, which is half the cost of the Xbox. Getting the Xbox, I'd have 90% of that same functionality, along with the ability to play console games. Plus, I can get rid of my old bluray player since the Xbox plays those (so does the PS4), and now my whole setup is a lot less complicated and uses fewer pieces of equipment, which means less cables. Xbox looks like the best system to get if you're willing to commit to use it to run everything that comes through your TV. That's a big step, and I don't think the Xbox is all the way baked when it comes to that, but with updates it should keep improving. The thing's gonna be around for quite a few years.
If any of that matters to you, the Xbox might be your best bet. Aside from a few titles, pretty much every game is available on both consoles so that's a non-issue AFAIAC.
If you didn't already read this, it might help:

GTA V has some very fun racing. There's a race creator function. I've played Forza for a long time, but GTA racing stays fresh hour after hour.

A console's a console, they both have strengths and weaknesses, but they're pretty close overall. The only question that really matters is which one has the games you want. Personally, I find that the only PS game I'd want to play is GT, so the decision's an easy one.

I initially had the PS4, but the console took a crap on me. Couldn't play any games for longer than 10 minutes.
Decided to return it (Thanks Costco!). Got an XB1 instead. Couple of reasons:
-FM5 and Horizon 2 are both great fun. Forza titles come out much more regularly than GT titles.
-Controller. XB1 controller is much better ergonomically vs. the PS4 controller. That being said, the build quality of the PS4 controller is miles better. The PS4 controller is made for tiny Asian hands. I was cramping just going through the menu.
-More games I actually play (Halo, Gears, Forza, etc.)
That being said, the PS4 is the more powerful system and has much better build quality.

PS4 is no longer free multiplayer, AFAIK.
Also, the better specs are significant. PS4 is running better resolution and frame rate on some multiplatform titles vs the XB1.
I have an XB1, but I recognize the more powerful system.

I'm not really excited about either console. So far, all of the games that have come out on either system that I've wanted to play have also had a PC version. I haven't felt any urge to upgrade my trusty PS3, although I did just upgrade the video card in my PC.
If I had to buy a new console this week, I'd buy a Wii U because the first-party exclusive titles are appealingly fun to play.

And I didn't know that about the specs. Last I read (before either system actually came out) the differences were negligent.

You can buy a fine little set of hand tools that you'll have the rest of your life for the price of one video game.
