So a Little bit about me. Well, there is !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! for a kickoff
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
Adding to that, I live in Utah, have most of my life except when I didn't. I've worked in video production for over 10 years now and i have an amateur interest in photography and writing. I would be an engineer but I have !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! , I would be a writer but I have Dyslexia...dmanit! Anyway, ask away!
You are welcome to ask about my mod duties, but keep it civil.

What trauma happened in your childhood that made you prefer Land Cruisers to Baja Bugs?

"The doctor said, "What you been thinkin' 'bout?"
Bob said, "That's the point,
I won't think about nothing
Now I gotta do something else."
What's the next line?

Would you rather fight one horse-sized duck or one hundred duck-sized horses?
What's the one car you would love to own or drive above all else?

Why Utah?

I caught a baja bug when I was 12, my arms swelled up like two balloons, I don't want that feeling again.

It must have been something truly terrible. I'll be amazed if he would share such a profound personal tragedy with us.
We're here when you're ready, Hammerhead.

100 horse ducks!
hmmm, i kinda have an irrational lust for an esprit V8. The trouble with being a car person though, is that there is a diversity to my car tastes so its a tough one.

I can't tell if this is a Pink Floyd reference or not. I feel like you're quoting Comfortably Numb.

Video production you say? How would you set up a 1-day shoot to recreate a Top Gear staple - car vs. some-other-form-of-transport ?
As it sounds, its basically car takes on mass transit in a race to the finish in a fairly blatant copy of the TG version. A driver will pilot the car along the route, while giving a running commentary/review of the car. 1-2 other challengers will take an alternate form of transportation and try to beat the car to the destination. Challenges will be planned/scripted to ensure the routes are comparable in length. The ideal result is a close finish with some humor and automotive information along the journey.
Where would you do it, what car would you use, how many people would you conscript to help, what sort of cameras/gear would you use, etc.?

I was born there you see, plus why not? holy crap its the most excellent place of all the excellent places I've visited. I was running the desert on Saturday and I could have been skiing the fluff on Sunday.

What is your favorite Utah ski resort/area?

I do suppose you have your variety of locales.
I'm a few states away from where I grew up. Was just wondering if it's where you spawned or where you went to on your own.
I was born in NJ and now live in MI, yes entirely by choice.

Where would I do it? someplace interesting, maybe Hawaii if someone else is paying. What cars would I use? something terrible but fun, I would conscript as many as it would take/budget. Camera's are just tools, but I would use as many small high quality cameras as I could to avoid putting all my eggs into one RED basket.

Not even NEAR close.. hehe.. The next line is "OI OI OI!". It's a NOFX song.

Snowbird. It is crowded and full of power hounds, but it has the best terrain. Solitude is fun for the backcountry access but my favorite is the backcountry. Emma ridge and little superior in particular.

Not all are, and not all the time. We take turns being different sociopolitical parties. This week I'm a voterapathist.

"bucket list:"
No seriously, for me all I want in life is to enjoy beauty of this world with the people I love. I've got a great wife, two amazing little girls and all the world to see.
I can't wait to do some more exploring!

want to hear a great story? I went on a mission, because duh...Mormon...and when I was in Texas preaching the word my companion and I were stopped by this woman who ask if we were Mormons then asked to see our horns. I was stunned but my companion...not missing a beat...said, "sure". He took off his bike helmet and let this lady feel around his head. "Do you feel them?"
"No, I don't"
"oh, try towards the back, over here?, how about now?"
"mmmm"
"now, a little further back. do you feel anything?
"I don't"
"do you feel...stupid?"
She didn't like that and she stormed off cursing us. Good times.

Why did you choose a Sportwagen TDI? Trim level? Manual or DSG?
![]() 11/25/2014 at 12:12 |

We had a great awareness campaign this year.

If there was one correct answer to the given question, you gave it. I respect that.

Diesel wagon, plus my wife insisted on keeping a VW in the family. Are there trim levels on the TDI? we don't have nav or the sunroof. Manual.
![]() 11/25/2014 at 12:14 |

I saw a shark once, I was scuba diving, scuba stands for SELF CONTAINED UNDERWATER BREATHING APPARATUS, Apparatus is a funny word. Does that answer your question?

When I lived back east, the main misinformation was that we were somehow associated with the Amish. That, and one kid asked my younger brother why we weren't allowed to eat meat with Japanese people. That was a new one.
![]() 11/25/2014 at 12:16 |

Nice! Same trim level as mine! (There was the sunroof, then sunroof w/ nav)
Beige or Titan black Interior?

I think my favorite, aside from the one above, was the couple that stopped me in Target and ask why we worship floating balls and what its like to fly naked in the temple? My first thought ran to "What the ever loving hell?" then my next though went to "...if we could really fly around naked in the temple, temple attendance would be higher."

What brought you to Oppo? Why do you stay?
![]() 11/25/2014 at 12:19 |

I started out on Gizmodo then I discovered that there was a car gizmodo...then I discovered Oppo was a place I could actually participate. Long story short, I came for the crab cakes, I stayed for the people.

An executive at the first company I worked at owned a V8 Espirit. I loved it when he would bring it into work, that car is gorgeous.

I've never been too fond of the crowds at Snowbird. Solitude is awesome because of the complete lack of crowds. I don't think I ever waited even 5 minutes at Solitude. My favorite might be Powder Mountain. That place is awesome with good terrain and it all seems to be fair game. I like Park City too, since I worked there and got to know the hill pretty good. I don't think there has ever been a ski hill I didn't like. They've all got something going for them.
![]() 11/25/2014 at 13:45 |

exactly, its like cars. Even shitboxes have cheapness as their virtue. PowMow is pretty great, but its too remote. I live at the base of little.
![]() 11/25/2014 at 13:56 |
|
Yeah, it's a drive up to Powder and once you're going that far Snowbasin is just too pretty to not go to. I still like Powder Mountain better. Living at the base of LC makes the decision a little bit easier though when it comes to deciding where to ski.
Do you get the powder rule at work? My best day of midwest skiing came on a Friday that I was too sick to work. It was a good thing I felt it coming on Thursday night and was able to drive 3 hours north to get to the ski hill. All week I had been watching winter storm warnings for the area and wondering. When it got upgraded to blizzard warning on Thursday morning my decision was made. Driving up to the cabin there was a 5.5' deep snow drift closing the road to about 3/4 of a lane. The next day was bottomless and snowing so fast you didn't have to ski tracks. Plus the weather was so bad it kept most people from getting to the hill.
![]() 11/25/2014 at 14:02 |
|
We have a "you better have a damn good reason to miss work" policy. I was in southern utah for the storm, plus I still need new skiis.

Mongo SantaMaria! Touche'. Let me rephrase that: I mean, uh, how would one perform a HammerheadFistpunch, were there someone who required one? Like, punching someone whilst clutching a hammerhead, similar to brass knuckles? Or is what one does when one finds oneself threatened by a Hammerhead shark, punching it firmly with ones' fist? Do you throw the hammer at an opponent, as a proxy for ones' fist at longer range? So many options, the mind reels.
