I'M TRYING TO GET MY RANCHERO OUT OF THE WAY FOR ONE OKAY

The forgotten star car from Back to the Future. Arguably cooler than the Delorean

Wait I thought you weren't going to sell the Ranchero?

And really?! He/She is one classy person

I'm not going to sell the Ranchero, but it's in my "project car" slot. As in, I can't have more than one project cooking at a time.

Gotcha. You better put the Ranchero in the microwave and get a move on!

Time to add another project car slot. Or do you not have enough experience?

This is mostly the "I'd need to get another tent to put on the property and my dad would kill me" kind of thing. If it were just me and my projects it'd be different, but seeing as how we've got two Land Rovers apart, two more in need of body work and paint, the '67 4wd International Loadstar that needs cleaning up, the '78 Mopar-powered Titan motorhome with a bad floor, the two Benz 240Ds in need of engine help...

"Hey, I just bought a Packard" might be the straw to break the camel's back.

It's not that *I* have too many projects, but that the family as a whole has too many on deck and in the queue. Two Benzes in need of help, a '67 International, a '78 motorhome, and broadly speaking 4 more Land Rovers to greater or lesser extent.

We've already got one "guy-who-let-a-bathtub-packard-sit-outside" in this town. Need not to have two.

Not that it'd kill it outright, but if it's a convertible, and with it being rainy as shit here a lot...

I have a '48 Custom Eight too but mine's a sedan and its not in concourse condition. But its still an awesome car. These guys came with the strongest straight eight that Packard ever made.

Kinja'd!!!

The convertible might not be a '48 as instead of model years Packard actually separated models as different series'. Mine (and the convertible) are 22nd series and they were produced from late 1947 to early 1949. Usually each series was timed similarly as model years but 22nd was unusually long.

For not being concourse condition yours looks to be in pretty great shape. I love the color.

How does it drive going down the road? I assume it floats but in 1948 I don't know if the technology was there yet.

The exterior is quite decent but interior is quite bad (except the wool headliner that is still perfect). I have two worn out joints in the front suspension so it is not working properly in tight corners but it still rides pretty well.

It originally had interesting high tech equipment as it had an automated clutch pedal. All that now remains are red clutch pedal rubber and very complicated accelerator linkage. The other parts are gone.

The current paint is dark blue but it was originally a bit lighter shade metallic blue. The rear fenders are hiding some kind of bondo surprise but otherwise the body is quite solid.

Hey if it is fun to drive that is all that matters. It looks like it is a blast to own. I did not know it had an automated clutch pedal. I figured by 48 it would be a full auto.

Packard had its own automatic gearbox (Ultramatic) as optional equipment but it wasn't very reliable.

Quite nice sedans can still be found with low prices but convertibles are really expensive.

Here's a nice '49 Super Eight for sale . Super Eight came with the same 356 cid engine and wheelbase but lacked some standard equipment. That one looks really nice.

Okay I think I remember the Ultramafic problems if I think about it.

I think if I was to buy one it would be a sedan or coupe. I think the lines of the bathtub shape show up best without a soft top. I love the hood ornament. Such a great car.

The problem with Ultramatic is that it has low and high speed ranges. And if you want quick acceleration you need to start with low speed and switch to high range when you are going fast enough. But the box have tendency to brake while doing this.

That hood ornament seems to be a real photo magnet. Everywhere I go with mine the hood ornament gets a lot of attention. Its supposed to be a cormorant but usually people think that its a swan.

I always thought it was a swan myself. Interesting
