So I have decided on Polishing the Aluminium intake into a mirror finish with a metallic teal valve cover, thanks to AMGtech for the idea.

However upon pulling the valve covers off I found something amazing.

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

Timing chain and top end were rebuilt or replaced fairly recently, it is absolutely beautiful. Unfortunately being a German car of the 90's almost every hard plastic and vacuum hose is rotted. It was swift before, but after I put it all back together I wonder how much power I was missing?

What are you going to do to keep the intake in good shape long-term?

Haven't thought that far ahead, but I have much more in store for the car.

I am dreading having to order all of the vacuum and crankcase lines that have deteriorated. Hopefully everything will be done in a few days.

Can't blame you. Most dealers stock that stuff and sell it by length, and its not too expensive. But it still can be a nightmare to route and connect all of them.

Mercedes is more than happy to order everything for me, but I can't help but feel like an idiot for paying $40 for a 6 inch long plastic tube.

I know what you mean. It took me a while to stomach the costs of a lot of things. Unfortunately that's just the way it is with a lot of things, and it's not just Mercedes.

I've owned other high end cars, but the only difference is that there seems to be no aftermarket for this car. I have a jaguar salvage yard in town and BMW parts are all over the internet, this car is being a different sort of pain.

Yeah definitely. It's a rare beast and not very aftermarket friendly at all. On the plus side, Mercedesis great about continuing to produce parts for old cars. So hopefully you will always be able to find whatever you need.

270 everything. New gaskets, hoses, and vacuum lines
