I'm just gonna start compiling Safari issues into its own series.
So I finally have a video of the squealing, which is constant now. Warning: It's loud.
I also made a list of stuff the Safari needs/I want to do, which is quite long. . This probably isn't everything either.
Stuff the Safari needs:
(Astrik indicates urgent, Pound indicates if owned by senior year)
Oil change*
New accessory belt* (If squeaking continues, replace water pump)
Rear transmission seal replaced
A/C condensor seal replaced and refrigerant added
Radiator flush
Headlights adjusted
New headlight switch
New speakers: Infinity preferably#
Fix temp gauge (broken sensor)
Take down curtains
Replace all interior dome+door light bulbs
Grease sliding door
Figure out why locks don't unlock all the way sometimes
Fuel injector cleaner in tank
Seafoam
Sand and primer concerningly large rust spot above windsheild
Something to cover dash to hide cracks
Figure out why driver's seat squeaks
Fix/replace driver's side window switch
New cover for driver's side mirror
New muffler*
New front tires
New shocks on all four corners
Repaint#
New rear bumper#
New exterior door handle on driver's side
Remove chrome door edge guards

So yeah, there's a lot more shit than I realized I want to do/needs to be done.
I might have done something to it yesterday as well. I was holding the engine at high RPMs in neutral to see of the squeaking would stop (P.S. it didn't) and I heard a loud pop and it wasn't a backfire.

That sound sounds like a belt or pulley of some sorts; perhaps the AC or something?

I've already replaced two pulleys. Which caused it to get worse. And both pulleys were good, so I have no fucking clue!

That transmission takes neutral drops like a champ. They haven't phased it one bit.

Idler pulleys. One of the new ones you can see right under the transmission dipstick. The other one is down on the engine further.

Ok.... Do Automatic transmissions like sand? Pour some sand In to where the ATF goes, and see what happens

I'm not sure what to do here. The 944 has a pulley that sounds just like this that needs to be replaced. There must be some other pulley.

4.3 Non-Vortec. 4L60E. That last part I have no idea about.
But yeah, pulled the dipstick to check it and there wasn't anything on it at all.

Those are the only two on my block that aren't connected to anything like the power steering pump or alternator. We're buying a new belt this week to see if that cures it somehow.

If only it was a diesel, it would be pretty easy to kill. Adjust fuel screw, max out the egt's, pop the engine, turn fuel screw back down as if nothing had happened.

Today I learned that the Chevy Express and Rolls Royce Silver Spirit used the same transmssion.
