I'm a director of career services at a tech school. Working in education means way too much paperwork, because nobody has figured out that this would all be so much easier to do electronically. We're getting our bi-yearly internal audit done. This blows.
The school I work for, their standard mode of operation is to create lots and lots of redundant documentation of things in order to show our accrediting body that we are doing what we're supposed to. But the processes for this documentation are way more complicated than they need to be, and the school's philosophy is to make sure that every single worthless procedure that should be streamlined but isn't, is followed to the letter of the policy manuals that also need to be streamlined but aren't.
It's awful, but that's how it is.
I should point out that I hate paperwork. I work most efficiently by avoiding paper at all costs. And yet a significant portion of my job involves paperwork. Nobody told me about all this paperwork BS until after I started, of course. My first day, I showed up for training and they're like, "ok so let's learn how to fill out forms." Which took multiple days to go through all of the paperwork training, and it still didn't cover nearly everything I need to do. I did my best not to run screaming out of the place, because hey, I gotta work.
So today my day is full of pulling a bunch of student files to grab certain specific pieces of paper, scanning them all, uploading them to a SharePoint, and then filling out a stupid questionnaire.
The sad thing is, of all the departments in the school, I have the easiest load of crap to fulfill, and it's still stupid.
FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU PAPERWORK.

And at the other end of the spectrum, this happens.

A factory worker died from severe burns when he became trapped in an industrial oven, Liverpool Crown Court has heard.
For the sensitive I suggest not reading any more about it, but the accident was caused by a total lack of any process to check if someone was in the oven before it was fired up.

Hmm, sometimes people here warm up Marie Callender's frozen chicken pot pies in the toaster oven.
