Because you do. As car people our WANTS eventually mature into NEEDS. It's the circle of life.

And then the happiness will disappear when you're cleaning the wheels with a toothbrush.

Apparently, they can be surprisingly reliable.

You do! And you also want to install a Ford V8 in the name of reliability and not tire-shredding burnouts.

I just run a cloth over the exterior myself. The brake dust in-between the spokes sort of adds a relief to the bright alloy of the spokes and makes them look more elegant :)
Really I'm just lazy with it, but it's nice when that coincides with something I like the look of ;)

I wouldn't worry about reliability with these cars, especially the engines :) with regular oil changes they regularly run well over 200k miles without a problem. I've heard of head gaskets going on the early 3.6 cars above 120k miles and such, but nothing of the sort for any of the later ones.
I certainly know my 4.0l manual is still thundering away at 152k miles :)

Yep :) I can certainly vouch for mine. 152k miles (10k of which I've put on in a little over 6 months). It's still running like a top, and pulling like a train :) engines are notoriously solid

Hmmm, perhaps not the 12 but the 6s are certainly solid as a rock :)

The only thing that worries me is finding parts for the eventual major service, those are hard to find in my little third world country.

They aren't so bad. When properly maintained, they're no more unreliable than any other old cars. The problem Jags and Daimlers have is second owners...the original owners treated them like he special things they were, while the second owners treated them like a used car. Find a good one. My '84 is as nice as it gets, so my problems as they arise have all been really minor and easy to fix.

Hmmm, which country were you in again? I know you can get everything service-wise from companies in the UK if you don't mind higher shipping costs.

Ugh, lovely :S worth checking out though. They need bushes relatively regularly compared to your average sized car, but beyond that they're nothing exceptional maintenance-wise :)
