"Logansteno: Bought a VW?" (logansteno)
11/20/2014 at 22:12 • Filed to: None | 3 | 56 |
This person wrote what has to be the longest response I've ever gotten.
All because I said "Fucking Camry drivers." he decides to go on a stint about the "engineering excellence" of the Camry. And how he uses all he's learned from his four years of engineering school to shoot down people's arguements.
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
All that and I never even insulted the Camry itself, just some of the more... special drivers.
Also, does anyone else find it weird when someone comments on old posts?

He said a Camry is more fun to drive than an Impreza. Nuh-uh not having it,

A friend of mine hooned his dad's old Camry quite a bit, slid around in the snow without caring about crashing. Funnily enough, his sister burnt the clutch, and she only had 3 hours seat time.

ULY be right. Some of the best fun is a crap can beater and either some woods or a field. And just thrash the crap out of it.

According to Jalopnik logic, he may be correct if the Camry is a manual and the Impreza is CVT. A V6 Camry is undeniably faster though.

it does look good in silver. But I'll go with a white one with the dark wheels.
As for the drivers, why do we keep bashingToyota drivers. ALL DRIVERS can be morons. Even pros in racecars. I can give as many high end car stories as Toyotas on the topic at hand. The words All and Always are always going to call on a responce because there is always proof of contradiction in the car world. OPPOnauts know better, leave the bickering to the front page and Youtube. That is what sets our awesome blog apart, our intelligence of the automotive world and discipline.

The 92-96 Camry/ES300 is the best car ever made. I have a 96 ES300, and it is fucking awesome.
But yeah, all that quality (and prestige that the ES adds) is wasted on the idiots :(
But if you think Camry drivers are bad, then the RX must be a unicorn up your way :p

Nah man, blue XSE V6 with black leather.
I bash all drivers. I bashed myself all day for backing into a car. But this specific story involved a Camry, and the commenter who I made that comment to's story involved a Camry.

I said Jalopnik logic. Having driven a CVT, they aren't that bad, just the sound is annoying. They are a fuck ton better than Chryslers 9-speed.

What annoys me is that it just stops at 4k when in drive. If I go to paddle shift mode I can rev it higher but I haven't used the paddles much.

lol good examples. But in reality for most, we can buy a Porsche and most likely be stuck in traffic on every outing. Personally, once out of the city, it doesn't matter if I'm in a Huracan or base Jetta, I'll be having fun just cruising or carving up some back roads. Give me open space and a motor vehicle, game on!

'sophisticated'
That car is far from sophisticated. It was extremely basic design throughout, but that is why it worked. A woefully drab and uninspired design, but most buyers are uninterested in that. The interior is fully decked out in brittle cheap plastics, like all of it's competitors.
Now I don't like being an ass on here but come on dude.
Replied with this, little bit assholish but i'm under the weather and cranky.

Does pretty good, and it's a good laugh getting tire howl and fighting to stay in place on the bench seat. All my vehicles get occasional flogging like that. My favorite still is my first, the 2000 S10.

He has five posts in total. The first four are copy pasted replies to various article about the Camry, all within ~5 minutes. Then over a year later he comes out of the blue to, once again, defend the beigemobile of choice, with illogical arguments.

I love how superior he believes himself to be because he has an engineering degree. He even says something like hes annoyed people have no physics or mathematical knowledge of cars, but why the fuck would they? The average person has absolutely no use for any of that. I say this as someone who is nearing the end of a mechanical engineering degree. Having a qualification is good, but it doesnt make you superior to anyone else. What an asshat.

Now, I think that everyone is entitled to their own opinions. But, it still remains that some opinions are more reflective of the truth and based on facts, and some opinions are not true.
No offense, but the kid is actually pretty dead on, and your above post is actually pretty opposite of the truth, objectively speaking. Yeah, it was a long rant, but its all true. Don't be quick to judge a Gen 3 based on newer camrys. Remember, completely different cars with only the same nameplate. The car is actually probably one of the most technologically sophisticated cars made at the time, back when it debut in 1991. The styling may be drab and dull by modern standards but it was quite a departure from the boxes of the time. And yes, the stamping with the one piece roof and compound shoulder of the C pillar is far more complex than many modern cars like an Evo 8 or STI.
Also, the interior is mostly not made of plastic, but rather heavily padded upholstery. What little plastic there is is actually very hefty and solidly made. Better than many modern cars.
If anything, I would bet that Jalopnik and OppoLock has some mulah coming in from the big 3 to slander Toyota's best selling car, not the other way around.
