After many weeks of trying to find the perfect car for me, my wife volunteered to try and understand what I'm after. She offered 1 car and it ended up being the one that I'm giddy about.

It's a 2005 Mazda6 s Sport wagon, V6 with 6 DIY gears

None of my friends can understand my love for wagons. Can Oppo please validate that my love for wagons is not irrational?

I'm so excited, I think I'm going to go in tonight and test drive it and then put some money down on it!

Nice choice, I was trying to talk my grandad into buying a Mazda 6 last year but their residual values are so good he'd have needed to buy an older car than he wanted.

I'm just tickled that this car is so cheap! It was recently marked down from $10k to $6k, so I could even get away without negotiating anything

Easily the sexxiest wagon available. 10/10 would dragon until I died of exhaustion.

I would put a V70R or any German wagon above this, but for the price/performance/reliability, I wouldn't trade it!

My wife drive this same car. It has got some pep. Other than the headlights being a PITA to change, it has been very reliable and a fun ride.

Not bad. Hopefully it all checks out and you're driving it home soon. Seems like a good compromise between fun and practical.

I think one of the first things I would do is retrofit some awesome projectors and HIDs in there. TRS makes some great kits and the DIY for this car didn't look too hard

Nice! If you're the modding type, a relatively cheap intake + MAF tune can get these babies from the stock 215hp to around 240.

Absolutely. And this is located at a Subaru dealer right down the road from us where we bought 1 car, just had 1 car fixed there, and we can trade in out other Subaru. Hopefully they give us a good trade in/deal

Watch out for surging throttle problems, very common on the V6 and extremely dangerous to have happen while driving. I forget what the fix was for this, might just be caused by faulty TPS but there was a bunch of other things that got changed before the problem was fixed. rendered the car un-drivable due to its tendency to apply full throttle on its own, even while full brakes are applied. twas a pants shitting experience when that happened on the road :)

I looked at a Mazda6 V6 wagon. It was a Touing, so no manual :( but still a great car.

woo! I'm all about mods that keep the car looking stock from the outside. I like OEM wheel replacements that make the car look slightly edgier, a modest drop (2-finger gap), and that's about it. So that being said, I would definitely look into the mods you mentioned! Thanks!

I was looking at Mazda6s back in 2011 when I bought the WRX, and came across the CPe system. It looks like it's been discontinued, but apparently you can get the same sort of results with a more generic intake and a Unichip.

I had one of these for 10 years and it took me across the country numerous times. Same color too, though I didn't have the roof rails. It was great and gave me no real problems the time I had it. Only unexpected repairs were the drivers window when the motor chewed up its plastic teeth, the intake hose when it dry rotted and cracked, and the auto climate control when it decided to stay locked on full heat to the face.

I still have a set of Mazda Speed springs (never installed) and some 20" wheels with a bit of rash and RE50A summer tires with ~70% of the tread left if you pick this up and are interested.

It's only a 5 speed BTW. Let me know if you have any questions about the car

I said *relatively* cheap. You are right, though, and modifying an NA car for power is almost always extremely expensive unless a lot of power was left on the table (like, say, smog-choked 1970s V8s). It is however, a relatively cheap add-on to the purchase price to get your car on-par powerwise with an Accord V6, which doesn't come in a wagon.

oops, only 5 speeds. You're right.

I can't commit on any of your parts at the moment since I'd like to do a bit more research and see if the car needs repairs first. Thanks for the offer though!

basically. I've taken the same motor in my Milan from 45k miles to just under 90k. I do regular oil changes and so far haven't worried about anything under the hood. I've put on tires and replaced all 4 brake pads and front rotors.

Not a thing with the engine tho. I hear they run to 200k NO PROBLEMS.

No problem. You should be able to look it up online. I found the fix on a Mazda forum. This problem really does create genuinely unsafe driving conditions but as a whole I think the wagons are the best 6's made.
