Federal prison service staff misused public assets and committed a "serious breach of code of conduct" by setting up a car wash, oil change and vehicle repair enterprise using correctional facilities, supplies and inmate workers, an internal investigation has found.

According to a report on wrongdoing in the workplace from the Correctional Service of Canada, an investigation was launched after a whistleblower alleged a supervisor was abusing publicly funded resources, time and materials to wash and fix colleagues' cars.

The senior staffer was also ordering employees to pick up parts, paints and supplies using CSC fleet vehicles to benefit their private business, according to the report.

...that's......interesting. Not sure, if I was a prison guard I would trust the inmates with my car. Since what you're doing is "against the rules" if they messed it up or took a crowbar to it, you'd have no recourse.

I think they probably cherry picked the best behaved prisoners and the prisoners enjoyed the work since changing oil> doing nothing in a cell all day. That'll be why they managed to trust them with their vehicles.

The sad thing is that work was probably more beneficial to the prisoners than anyone else. I don't know much about Canada's prison system but if its anything like the United State's then my first sentence carrys more weight.

If they would have set this up correctly it would be a great success story. Unfortunately the wardens did it in a pretty shady way to benefit themselves.

Yep if it was all above board they're benefiting society and teaching the inmates useful work skills for when they leave. Shame they just went ahead with it illegally.

I don't find this that bad. In my country (Dominican republic) there was a guy in prison that was really good at cleaning engines all types of cars went to him he got payed for it, which works because when you are in prison over there you have to pay for your overhead.

I'd prefer to see people in jail doing work, instead of sitting around, this needs to be legit in a way, get the best behaving guys to work, and maybe lower reoccurring crimes.
