It makes me sad to see that engine in a Packard also too low for my tastes. That being said I would never say no to a Packard

Yeah that's reason enough to install that lump.

What I'm saying, is, if you have the choice of an AMC with rockin' valve covers you already have, and going looking for some SBC, there is no choice.

Unless your AMC engine is the straight 6 the choice is obvious.

The engine sounds like a solid choice. Here is what I found out about it from Wikipedia:
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
The 343 cu in (5.6 L) 343 has a 4.08 in (103.6 mm) bore and 3.28 in (83.3 mm) stroke. The basic 343/2V produced 235 hp (175 kW; 238 PS) and was built from 1967 through 1969. Output for the optional 4-barrel carburetor version was 290 hp (216 kW; 294 PS) and produced 365 pound force-feet (494.9 Nm) of torque (gross). This version had a 10.2:1 compression ratio
If it can't be the original mill I am glad to see something other than a cookie cutter Chevy or 302 Ford under the hood.
