Because I like cooking (Amazing! I have some other hobbies other than cars). Also because it's better to be cooking inside than dealing with the fools outside who caused the commute times to be over an hour before I even got up at 7AM.
I might re-invent Coq au Vin for the sake of doing it again. However, I very well could just get a pack of drumsticks or thighs and cook those in merlot.
I want to go home and cook now...

I've got the feeling that most of us opponauts enjoy cooking, seems like gearheads and slow cooking go hand in hand :) As for reinventing Chicken in wine I'd suggest a dollop of brandy, a dash of whisky and a few spoonfuls of honey :)

I'll give you the brandy, but I won't accept whisky for that. :)
Plus if you don't go completely dry on the wine, and use copious amounts of butter, it fries up well before going into the oven.
Also a few shallots and pearl onions, and some garlic.

Shallots is a given, same with garlic :) Whole fennel works a treat as well.

However, unlike the car, I refuse to use a cook book most of the time.

Never used a cook book in my life, I just throw stuff in. "hmm this would taste good with that, and this might work with this" :)

The only things I know how to make are phillies, cereal, and pop tarts.
....I should probably broaden the scope a bit though...

Perhaps we should lock you in a Williams-Sonoma/Sur La Table store for a weekend. :)

I'm actually going to try to host a dinner party soon! I'm really getting into cooking. Gonna have a tomato and diced mozzarella salad in reduced balsamic vinegar, cream of chicken soup, casarecce in garlic and oil, bacon-wrapped chicken roast all finished with chocolate gelato. It'll be an experience, that's for sure, since I've never cooked a meal that big before, but I'm finding that I enjoy it quite a lot!

I'm enjoying it since I now have decent cookware.
The only thing that's left to fix is the kitchen, which is atrocious. I'm considering a HELOC to fix it, and at the very least, get a gas stove.
The main thing that's awful with it is the countertops and the cabinets, which are 27 years old.

Ah. I'm very lucky to be in an apartment that had just refurbished its entire kitchen (one of the draws to the apartment) so I got a brand spanking new gas stove and oven to play with.

I bought my house knowing that it would need renovation. I've cooked for 3 years on a glass-ceramic GE electric range.
I've put my time in.

It's been a while since I made them though. I prefer to make my with green peppers, onions, banana peppers, roast beef, and jalapeño pepper jack. :)
