I've been driving the GTX for a week in winter weather here in Colorado. The Miata on its summer tires has retired for the season. And with that, I've dropped the Miata's insurance down to appropriate non-driving levels. With the changes, I'm saving $25/month on car insurance (don't need a low deductible on collision and I don't need rental coverage, for example. Comprehensive coverage isn't changing because hail and theft could still occur.).
So if you're putting a car away for the winter, remember to save some money on insurance while you're at it!

EDIT: AtlasM pointed out that if your non-winter car is being stored in a locked garage, you should be able to change its insurance status to "stored" so you can save much more money.

Good advice. Also if you're putting your non-winter car fully away in storage, you can knock off even more by telling insurance it's in storage.

I changed my Trans Am to storage insurance which is like $12/month.

Yes! The Miata is spending the winter outside, but I'll edit the original post to point this out.

Thank you! I'm trying to take care of it properly so I'm not exactly regarding it as a "beater", but I get what you mean. There will be more GTX content coming in the next few days.
But you're spot-on with the tires. 185/60R-14s, Dunlop Winter Maxx. They do just fine in the snow, trust me. :)

A beater is any car that's not your primary car or your "take it for a drive on a sunday" :) I'm not sure if I should be scared or pleased about the fact that I could tell they were 185's :P

Yea, unless your bank won't let you. Tried it a few years ago, has to have full coverage at all times. Next winter I'll be paid off and saving some more money!
