Jesus tap-dancing Christ, I broke down good!

Kinja'd!!!

It snowed on Thursday, and I was bored today. I thought "fuck it, I'm going for a drive". So I did, couple hours of whipping shitties in the snow and my truck dies... 50 miles from town. "Ugh, what the shit's wrong now?" An hour later I get it tracked down to my fuel pump... "Great, not gonna be able to rebuild that!" Call some friends and they're all "dude I gotta study/work/go to a party (This is Sunday too.), get someone else". What the fuck people I'm stranded 50 miles from anywhere and it's like 15 degrees out!! Ended up getting some guy I met once to go pick up a pump while I hitched a ride back to town in a new WRX. Through twisties. (nice BTW).

Once we get back to my truck it's about 5 degrees out and dark. Fuel pump turns out to be a superceded part and I have to do some wiring, YAY!!... Get it wired up enough and the fuse blows. What the living, breathing fuck... Re super duper wrap all the connections in tape and FUCK YEAH!!!!!!!!! it starts up. That has to be the best feeling in the world right then. Go to pull out onto the road (should mention I was working this whole time in a snow bank, and I'm from California, so never really dealt with snow) and immediately stall. Hand brake was frozen stuck, as were the tires to the ground. One burnout later and I'm on my merry frozen assed way. The funnest breakdown I've ever had in my life haha!!

Now I'm home and my fridge is sadly bereft of all shapes and sizes of beer... and it's Sunday. In Utah.

Anyone else got some fun breakdown stories?

Mine isn't a break down but in high school my F-150 ran out of gas going uphill less than a mile from the gas station. Me and a couple friends were trying to push it up the last bit of hill. It wasn't much and it was moving but very slowly. Downhill and then flat if we could get it over the crest I could coast in.

A guy in a dodge truck came along after a couple minutes and pushed me with his truck. I was embarrassed that my ford had to get a push from a dodge.

My friends '94 Toyota died all of a sudden. He had to push it home. It was the fuse. Apparently it is a common problem, because mine came with a shit ton of spare fuses.

But fun breakdown stories?

I was on my way home from a concert 300 miles a way from my house. It was in the middle of the summer in Alabama, so the temp was close to 100. I was 150-200 miles from home, traveling through Montgomery during rush hour, when I noticed my temp gauge was suddenly in the red. Not 10 miles before, I had gotten gas and it was running absolutely perfect. 1/2 a mile from the next exit, I learned about Toyota head gaskets. When the tow truck got there, he was pissed. Dispatch didn't tell him he would be driving to Florida. It was a quiet ride.

I tried to get the pump to run off straight battery power, but nothing doing.

And yeah that V6 + Tow Truck Driver + Long Drive doesn't sound like a perfect scenario haha

I had a buick riviera that died every time it rained. Water would get into the gas tank. Turns out the tank itself had a terrible design that would allow water that got splashed underneath from the tires to go up the sides of the tank and then pool up by the fuel pump and rust out the lock ring and wear out the pump seal. Sadly, they don't make those parts any more. So each attempt at a fix on my end was followed by utter failure during the next rain.

The worst timing ever was when I was heading over to the girlfriend's apartment. Bright and sunny on the first half of the drive.........and then sudden downpour. I had to stop about half a mile outside her apartment cause my gastank had a decent slug of water in it and my car was misfiring something fierce. I added some drygas and limped it into her complex but then had to push it to the parking spot outside her place and pray it would work in the morning. I also managed to throw out my back in the process since the buick weighed 4000 pounds and I pushed it a good 1/4 mile or so and I was already hurt from an accident at work earlier in the week where I got hit by a hi-lo.......The kicker was, well, she wasn't exactly the "sweet and kind" girlfriend as I found out that night. We broke up not long afterwards......

Since that has been done, it has made it on two 1000 mile trips just fine.
