Ford figured the market no longer wanted an imposing four-door, V8 muscle sedan. Then Chrysler launched the 300C with Hemi V8 power in 2005 and went on to sell hundreds of thousands of them.
I think if Ford had just set these apart from the standard CV/GM/Town Car a wee bit more they'd have had a hit on their hands. Personally I think they're awesome. They need more HP though. Uncork the choked up exhaust, perform a "J-mod" on the transmission, and if you've got the cash some forced induction.

Thanks for reading! I think you nailed it, really. Ford really missed an opportunity on this one.

That's a cool find, don't see many of those around. Those also had basically the same engine as my Mach, which means this must be an awesome car to drive.

Just like some other cool cars they built, Ford didn't advertise them. No one knew they existed. Great find - thanks for sharing.

I had a silver one 2004 for 6 years and loved the attention. Ten years ago 300 horsepower was a lot. But not so much for a 4400lb car. Yes, they benefit from forced induction and a few bolt-ons. Underdrive pulleys, 4.10 gears and a programmer shave half a ton off the feel. I sold it in 2012 but I am buying it back after the new year. Definitely collectible. Very similar to the Crown Victoria Sport but looks are where it stops. Very firm ride, growling exhaust and a sleek look made a menacing ride. With the few mods on mine I attained 167 MPH.

There was one of these in the area I grew up in, around Bayview and York Mills. Such an awesome car.
