Had the pleasure of attending the Ford Octane Racing school in Tooele , UT a couple months ago. Just now getting around to sharing photos of the Ford racing museum on the grounds of Miller Motorsports Park. To keep nibbles at bay and appease the kinja gods I will limit this post to only the GT's. Some hot Cobra action will be added in a post later today or tomorrow.

Kinja'd!!!

This is the 4 th GT40 prototype and the second oldest surviving GT40 chassis. Best finish was 3 rd place overall at the Daytona Continental in 1965.

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

This is a 1966 GT40, chassis name P-1074. It was driven by Jacky Ickx and Dr. Dick Thompson in its debut race at Spa-Francorchamps in 1967 and won, making it the first of any car to win in the Gulf livery. David Hobbs and Paul Hawkins drove this same chassis to victory at Monza in the 1000km race in April 1968. It was later sold around 1970, modified, and used as a camera car during filming for the movie Le Mans. After filming was completed ownership of the GT40 changed several times before the current owner purchased it and P-1074 was restored to its original condition and is now sitting in the Ford racing museum.

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

This is a 1966 Ford GT40 MK II, chassis name GT40P/1015. It won at Daytona in 1966 and finished second at the 1966 Le Mans 24 hour in the famous 1-2-3 photo-op finish for Ford. It last raced in the 1967 24 hours of Le Mans where it did not finish.

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

This is a Ford GT40 MK I, chassis name GT40P/1037. Due to my shoddy ipotato camera skills the description was unreadable.

Kinja'd!!!

This is a 1967 Ford GT40 MK IV J-Car, of which only 10 were built. The J-Cars competed at Sebring and Le Mans in 1967 and won both events. Pictured here is Chassis J-4 which won Sebring in '67 with Mario Andretti and Bruce McLaren (the only race it ever competed in). The 1967 Le Mans race was won by chassis J-6 (painted red) with A.J. Foyt and Dan Gurney. Thanks to John Gardner, Media Manager at Miller Motorsports Park for the update!

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

This is a GT40 MK III, chassis name GT40P/1102, built as a street coupe. This is one of six chassis from that year that were built exclusively for street use only. This particular one was given to John Wyer, an English automobile racing engineer and team manager who was the man behind the Gulf livery that we all love and enjoy today. Everything on the car is completely original with the exception of the paint, which was re-sprayed in the 70's.

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

This is a 2006 Ford GT owned by Miller Motorsports park, one of 4038 produced during the entire production run for the Ford GT.

This car showed up at an autocross I was running back in the 80's. Although it was basically idled around the course due to the fact it still had LeMans gearing it was amazing. When it was started up the noise was deafening and shook the ground. The entire event came to a halt for 5 minutes while we all listened to it.

Technically this car finished first with Ken Miles at the wheel, however the FIA was screwed up the podium and declared Bruce McLaren in the #2 GT40 the winner, though he was a lap down. Miles was arguably the best in the world at the time, but never gained the notoriety he deserved and was killed while testing the MKII successor, the MKIV, at Riverside in 1967.

The Miller Museum, is in my biased opinion, the best car museum in the country. There have been rumors about combining the Shelby American Museum in Boulder, CO, with the MMP museum, both owned by the same estate.

One more cool fact, the MMP museum is the only place in the world where you can see each generation of the GT40 in one place.

Read the headline, thought there was a racing school program available that used Ford GTs. Frantic clicking ensued.

Found out that it's more of a performance driving school using the ST models of the F-hatches and offering an optional second day that's more race-focused with Mustang GTs. The mid-engine supercars are just in the same location as the school.

Not bad, but damn was I excited and ready to blow a lot of money.

I'll add a couple more to the collection here. These two cars are in the Simeone Foundation Museum near the philadelphia international airport.

The first of the two in his collection is a '66 GT40 MK II and was a participant in the '66 Le Mans though it was the sister car to this one that won that race.

The second of the two is a '67 MK IV and participated in the 1967 Le Mans in which I believe there were 4 entered.

OMG, I died and went to heaven. That yellow #1 Ford Mark IV was driven by Bruce McLaren and Mario Andretti to a win at Sebring in 1967. Beat the Chaparral 2F [sigh] and proved that the Mk IV was capable of winning at LeMans.

I saw this actual car in 1971 at Road America for a Can Am race. It had Illinois license plates on it and was followed by two 427 SC Cobras, also with Illinois plates. To see a Mk II as well as a John Wyer GT 40 brings back so many memories.

Here are some pics from 1971 at Elkhart Lake:

Depends on which one you do and/or if you purchase it when you buy a new ST or Raptor. They have a few different programs and you can check em out here - http://www.fordracingschool.com/schools.html

The 1 day racing school runs about $1700 and the 3 day is about $4500.

Renting karts is cheap, like minimum of $20 bucks or something for 1 session. Track days can vary, but WOW events can be like $50 bucks for a bunch of laps in your own car.
