From the deep dark depths of homework, papers, laptop repair, running a haunted house and awkwardly having a crush on someone.
It's been eventful and soul-crushingly tiring.

Any news on how the Umbrella Revolution is going, thus far? I've noticed a serious down tick in mainstream media coverage and I am suspicious. >____>

There have been no majorly big developments in the past two weeks. The biggest issue as of current are the number of people applying for injunctions to have the barricades removed, along with the appeals of Occupy Central protesters being turned down by the court. It's normal of mainstream media to let it go after a while - it's the nearly the same with all news. You get a big story, that runs for about a week or so, then it dies down.

I have a few HK friends who have been giving me updates, but I also wanted your perspective. I'll be in HK for Christmas, BTW, in case you cared to link up. I'll be with a friend. I don't know what your plans are for Christmas Day though. I fly out that evening for Bangkok.

If I'm honest, when a public event interferes with the lifestyle and workings of the general populace for an extended period of time, support for it will eventually start to fall. Now, I'm all for democracy, freedom and equality amongst all, but certain ways in which Occupy Central is being carried out, it does not conform to its original action statement of love and peace. Fights break out, people complain and people get hurt. And because of the generalised view of "democracy vs communism" adopted by many un-critical people, you are in danger of being shouted down for expressing differing views from conventional thought, which is what I'm afraid of doing.
Personally, I think that Occupy Central was a necessary event which sparked attention to the issue at hand, to put it in the global spotlight and tell people of what's wrong in Hong Kong's political system. However, recent events also highlight China's indifference to the matter. Currently, they have major issues such as the province of Xinjiang and Tibet to deal with, big geographical areas that have been voicing dissent for a long time. Compared to those two, Hong Kong is a small speck that can wait until later to be dealt with.
The issue right now is that Occupy Central is becoming a major PITA for people who work and commute on Hong Kong Island. Because of the closing of the major thoroughfare along the harbour, all of Hong Kong's traffic has to be diverted on to the older, narrower, twisting hillside routes past where I live in the suburbs. Traffic is absolute chaos and gridlocks are to be expected. I'm regularly late for school these days because of the traffic's unpredictability and my poor MINI is starting to suffer because of the stop-start hill climb.
Overall, the best solution in my view is simply to keep Hong Kong as a Special Administrative Region (SAR), because it's the best of both worlds. We Hong Kong-ers get to keep our free economy, free speech and international connections whilst China continues to utilise Hong Kong as a pathway to the West. To absorb Hong Kong would be far too risky for China - the voices of the people won't just cry out, they'll scream and thrash until help comes to save them. And one thing that everyone seems to overlook - Macau is also an SAR but look at it. It just held one of the world's most famous Grand Prixs, is earning so much money that it can afford to give government handouts every year to every citizen and its people are happy. It's under the same system as Hong Kong, but seems to be coping just fine. Ever since the British arrived, Hong Kong has always been administered by a larger group and has never had complete political freedom - the question is, are we really ready for it?
