It's big time racing on Sunday at Homestead in FL, with just the right amount of demolition derby.
So it's the last race and with this year's format all the marbles are available to one of four chase drivers. In the past the championship has often been one driver's to lose and that's if it hasn't already been settled by the last race. Other drivers treat the last candidates respectfully and don't take them out to let their teammate in. With this format that last gasp of NASCAR decorum might get tossed out the window.
The way it is set up there are 43 cars starting and the highest placing of the 4 remaining chase drivers wins the championship. In the past you needed a calculator and a score card to figure what the championship result would be if someone got bumped and the finishing order got shuffled a bit. Not this time. If the #1 chase car is one place ahead of the #2 chase car in the last few laps, I guarantee a late wreck.
If a driver was not in in the chase but his teammate was, in the past it would have been a bit shaky to bump a chaser just because the championship outcome might not be so clear. And there weren't too many teammates in play. That's not the case this time. The opportunity for directly making a teammate the champion by bumping a car or two ahead, or throwing a significant block, might well be there for 7 – 11 teammates, depending on how you count teammates. I'm not guaranteeing a wreck in this situation, but the opportunity is more likely to occur, and all the chips are on the table, therefore it certainly could occur.
In any case it will be very fun to watch, at least for me. Go on with your NASCAR hate.

Who will Ryan Newman wreck this week? Or will the teammates not in the chase take care of him? Should be fun to watch.
