So Tennisguy187 inspired my Friday night rant. You have a race car. You are required for some reason that I don't understand, required to carry a fire extinguisher onboard.
So you made a blazing 13 second pass and you see flames licking the windshield. You
A. Get out of your vehicle and wait for the marshal.
B. Reach across the cockpit in a flume of poisonous flame & smoke and unbuckle the extinguisher from the floor, stay buckled in your seat and heroically fight the fire from behind the wheel.
Next, you don't have a race car. You have a rice car . and for some reason, you still need an extinguisher. Except now, there is no safety tech telling you it must be fastened to the floor. No one will know how bad ass your car is if they don't see your polished meth-tank so you wisely fasten it the the A-pillar, because rice car!
Now tell me. If your car is on fire, will you heroically fight the fire from behind the wheel as well? Better yet, what will become of this thing inside your vehicle when the curtain air bag deploys?
People, if your car is on fire, get away from it. Nothing good will happen reaching back in there. And PLEASE stop screwing the torpedo to the the A-pillar

Laughed so hard I farted!
I get the idea behind the extinguisher.
On two separate short attention span racers I've had I needed them. It's not what happens on track, it's what can happen in the Pits or on the return road.

The idea is if the fire is small or you catch it early enough you can either suppress it while you extricate yourself from the vehicle or manage to put it out before it gets old. Having it on the A pillar is not a great idea as a sudden impact may dislodge it where it then becomes a projectile. Also if the vehicle has airbags it'll be behind the deployed airbag and certainly a very bad idea if said vehicle also has A pillar airbags, granted yours may not but more and more cars do these days. In front or the seats is the best place as it's not in your way when you don't need it but quickly available to hand should you need it.
You should also of been told how best to use the extinguisher to it's fullest.

I'm pretty sure no one is saying use it while still in the car. You grab it on the way out, if it makes sense and is something minor enough that it will handle it.
