They're slightly brighter than the car itself, but just a little bit of brake dust should do the trick to make them a perfect match. Yay!

(Up close, they look like shit. I followed the can's instructions, and it had great reviews, so I'm thinking that it may have been defective or I didn't follow the vague instructions correctly. No, I'm still accepting responsibility, but I do blame the good reviews for making it seem better than it is, unless I really did have a bad can...)

Oh, and that bit of extra stuff in one of the holes is part of the hubcap around the air valve. Not excess stuff.

Did you use plasti-dip, or something else? I've never managed to get my wheels to look right when I painted them with it.

Plasti-Dip from Advance Auto Parts. It's not terrible stuff at all, but I wouldn't really recommend it.

I know that it can be done well because I've seen it, but I just haven't had any luck with it. You ever autocross that thing? I'm sure that there are people there who do it well and wouldn't mind showing you.

I don't, but I might sometime. I've been trying to find an Escort club around here, because there are at least two others that are obviously loved around me, but so far no luck. At least a nice all-inclusive one would be cool, but nope. Just a bunch of stancebros with ugly matching chrome windshield decals.

Yeah, I hear you on the stance-bros. That seems to be most local car clubs in general. If you're looking for something all inclusive, you should totally take it out for autocross. It sounds like that's the crowd you're looking for. No one there will care what you drive, because it's run what you brung, and they're there because they dig cars and want to drive them as opposed to being there for image reasons. Also, it's not hard on your car like an actual track day would be. The worst thing you can do is hit a cone and embarrass yourself. The cones won't do any damage.
