So I'm watching the Subaru Rally USA Launch Control things on YouTube, and suddenly I want to be a rally car mechanic. I don't know why. I've wanted to work in Motorsport for a few years now. Mainly sports car racing. It was just really quite random thought, although it sounds really freaking awesome.

That reminds me of an article from a couple years ago on Jalopnik.

It's an awesome gig for sure, I've got friends at SRTUSA and Hoonigan and they absolutely love it. (How could you not? Look at what you get to play with every day!) They're badasses as well, they can change a gearbox in fifteen minutes with no more drama than a routine F1 pit stop. I do know both SRT and Hoonigan require you have a couple years of motorsports experience (preferably with a rally team, but not required) before you're eligible for a wrench-turner spot.
If that's what you might want to do then I say go for it.
Also, I'm going to see if I can get someone to chime in on this...

Yeah, I used to want to be a sports car racer and win Le Mans (Still do but...) so I decided if I'm not gonna be able to drive I want to get into motorsport in some fashion. Preferably on the mechanical side of. I'm just trying to figure out what would be the best way to get in. Racing is my passion I want to make a living out of it if it's wholly possible.

As a full time technician for Hoonigan Racing I can assure you that working in professional motorsports is everything you'd hope it be and even more at times! It's hard to believe I'm ending my 4th season with HRD and 6th full time in motorsports. The career has it's ups and downs. The list of ups is extremely long, everything from who I work with, the places I go, to the cars I get to learn about and work on. But the downs are taxing as well. We pour so much effort and passion into our racing that it can be emotionally draining when things don't go our way. And there's an amazing amount of travel time associated with it. Thankfully I'm single so it's not difficult for me. But a lot of our team are married and some are even fathers. I give them a lot of credit for being so devoted to the job when they are thousands of miles away from their loved ones for extended periods of time!
