Crossing the block this weekend at the Mecum Auction in Anaheim is !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! It was built by Race Car Replicas specifically for the film !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! .
According to the listing, post-film use it underwent a full restoration and refurbishment, and upgraded with various useful bits like heat and air conditioning to be somewhat practical for it's next owner. The GT40 listed also comes with full documentation and certification from Universal Studios for both it's role in filming and later as a display piece at the Universal Studios park.
It looks like they did a pretty good job on it, and it has the connection to the F&F series, but I can only wildly speculate as to what it's selling price will be (if it sells at all). Considering a GT40 kit from RCR is about 40 grand, I'd at least assume the reserve price is over $100k.
theandysho : My name actually is Andy, by the way - I am your typical dorky late-twenty-something, and I travel the United States for work during the week. On the weekends I mess around with cars, videogames, and a dozen other hobbies I try to find time for. I occasionally author posts on Oppositelock and usually they are kinda cool... one day I'll finally be allowed to post to Jalopnik, I hope.

It does look like a good job of restoration. It will be interesting to see what it brings. Thanks for posting this. I didn't know this.

"Damn shame to ruin a classic with an aftermarket stereo like that"
Couldn't find Hobbs exact quote, but it's something like that.
