I recently applied for a "Sales Associate" position at CarMax, and they've set up a phone interview with me tomorrow at 2pm.
I'm just wondering if anyone here on Oppo could give me some tips or tricks, or maybe what to expect in the interview.
Full disclaimer: I've never sold cars before. Well.. there was that one time two summers ago where I went up to Brooklyn and helped my Uncle and his buddies "settle some debts".. but its never been my job.
So yea, wish me luck.

Haha I thought about it! I've done some Front Page stuff on Jalopnik lately and thought it would be a nice touch, but I fear Doug may have ruined that.

Don't mention Doug Demuro at all.

being interested in cars might not be a positive. keep that in mind. you're there to move cars, not to educate on cars. you're selling yourself first and cars second. most people don't give a fuck about the vehicle and just want to hear from the people

Just a tip, they will google you. Probably best to not have a picture with "Carmax Sucks" up when they do google you.

Hope this still get to you in time. You should tell them that you are the nicest guy people around you think you are, however, in the bone you are a really zealous salesperson. You are always helpful with requests customers sent your way, yet align their goal closely to yours.
Your job won't be learning everything there is about cars, but everything there is for a customer to sign the dotted line. Be it CarMax money back guarantee, available MaxCare, or wide array of financial options, there is nothing bigger matter to you than the smile you put on customers' face and your bank account.
It's going to be a win-win-win situation.

Indeed! Great tips there. The phone interview went pretty good. I have a physical interview Tuesday. We went over what the training and sales process would be. I'm still a little unsettled at the fear of commission sales, but the one I've applied to is on a large military base, and I know they move vehicles around a lot.
She said they expect a salesman to move at least 10 cars a month. Both she and I agreed that figure seemed more than reasonable, but my parents aren't convinced. Considering I'd be working at least 25 days of the month, I feel pretty confident in a 7-10 hour shift I'd be able to move at least 10 a month. She said the volume they function at doesn't make it an issue.
My little bit of homework on the company and their sales process impressed her. All it takes is 10 minutes on a website to impress people, that will always be my interview advice.

It seems that the job is in the bag. This is a suggestion you may or may not want to follow.
Step1: create a separate account that rivals Doug on finding CarMax Oppo friendly cars.
Step2: provide quotes to Oppos when you are idle, of course I meant MaxCare Quote.
Step3: $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
