Fake Badges are Terrible Things

I hadn't seen many cars with fake badges lately (i.e. AMG badges on C250s), but alas, there are many out there.

Spotted Monday night when I was in San Luis Obispo, CA:

BMW 5-Series with a lone ///M badge on the left and a Turbo badge from a Porsche on the right. It had dual exhaust, so it definitely was not a M5, M badge was on the wrong side, and it's most definitely not a Porsche.

Sometimes when people do this, it's funny. Like there was a guy on Craigslist who put a Kia badge on his S4, and I just found it humorous.

There's a guy at my school with a E90 M3 that's been debadged and rebadged as a 328i. I think it's pretty hilarious.

That has to be a joke. I know a lot of people put on badges like above that what to make their car seem like a higher trim than theirs really is but sticking a M badge on a Toyota can't be a serious attempt to fool anyone.

I see a lot of this stuff. Normally it's a ricer mobile with various things slapped on like a GT-R badge on a Civic dx (I've also seen a lot on Mustangs). However the worst I've seen is more than a badge job. Someone put a full Saleen (probably knock off) body kit on a standard V6 Mustang (early 2000s). I saw it listed on CL a while back for some ridiculous amount.

There was a kid a while back whose dad bought him a new C250 coupe. He wanted to know how much it would cost to put eBay exhaust and intake, C63 AMG Black Series badges and some eBay carbon fiber. When the service advisor asked me how much labor it would be I told him that I refused to do it and would throw up on the guys seat instead. He went to some other stupid so and had the crap installed. Then tried to trade it back into our store for way too much money because he had the "C63 conversion" done. I laughed my ass off.

i was sort of guilty of the fake badge thing... the last owner put a zr-1 badge from a c6 on the back of my lt1 c4. Hated it but was too scared to remove it as the paint was pretty much perfect on it...
