I have a new house! And a semi-usable garage!

The garage is a little wonky (back wall has some issues) and needs some work, but it's 2-car sized and easily accessible, and the house is awesome, and my commute will drop to half an hour. Woohoo! Closing in 3 weeks.

Plenty more room in that yard. You could make the garage like, twice as large. Bigger, if you don't want any backyard!

Nice place! Will the TT be able to sleep in there in the garage's current condition?

That's a definite possibility - it'd be nice to have good workshop space in addition to car space.

Nah, I'd have to fix the door first - they took out the proper garage door and stuck in 2 house doors with plywood in between. Apparently owner prior to this one had another garage/shed, which he actually took with him - rolled down the driveway on logs!

So I have to figure out if it's worth putting a proper door back on, or just doing the full rebuild. It's probably going to depend on how quickly my current house sells.

that looks really nice. I like the style. I'm done a ton of work to my house so let me know if you have any questions.

I see a grease pit, a lift, and big red wheelie thing full of Snap-On Tools. And a tire balancer can't be far behind.

Hmmmm, I'd say rebuild it. You should totally get some nice garage flooring, and those nice looking cabinet things.

Work's been stupid busy in addition to the house hunting. Also, track weekend at VIR - which I need to post about. :)

30 min added to your commute, in Houston - what, you moved a mile down the road? lol

vorspringing = rockstar!

Can't wait to read that epicness. House hunting is crazy but worth it. I moved way far away from work (1hr to and from) but I get to see cool airplanes flying looow :]

Congrats on the home ownership. It's people like you who keep my bills paid. Are you buying a bank repo or owner occupied, and where are you located, generally speaking? Just professionally curious. My sister inlaw is buying a home in Los Angeles for just over $550k for a 1,500 sq ft bungalow, which just blows my mind. I can pick up, if I could afford it, any type of McMansion for that price in NW Ohio. But, I'd still be in ohio.

I've more or less given up on finding a house in my budget with great garage space. It will be easier to find one on a decent size lot and have a separate shop built.

I was looking at a few repos, but this one was previously owner-occupied and didn't have any dire as-is clauses hanging over the house. I'm in the DC area - current place is in the outer VA suburbs, new place is in an MD suburb just outside the District. I should get a little more for my current place than I'm paying for the new one, which will take care of that new garage. ;)

Yeah, I got to the point where I was just looking for places that had a garage-like object and/or the curb cut for a driveway so there was evidence there had been one at some point.

Congrats. I told my girlfriend my 1 requirement is to have a garage when we buy a house (close almost requirement is a man cave AKA a room for my stuff). I'm tired of working on cars in the uneven driveway regardless of the weather.

Nice! My folks just bought a place with a giant detached garage (looks as if it would fit at least 4 cars) and three carports. It was formerly owned by an aerospace engineer/aircraft mechanic. The house is going to be used as an office for my dad's business, but he has already said that the garage is all mine. To top things off, he is going to get a 2-post lift to install in it as my Christmas present.

yea thats what you think until you move in and 80,000 spiders come crawling out of the wall and the tub falls thru the floor.... just kidding. good luck. I knew most of my problems going into it. One that did surprise me is that the apparently built the bathroom around the washer and dryer so I not only had to remove the door but the door frame and the door framing (studs) to get the old ones out.

Heh. I had lots of crap like that with my current house - I'm hoping to avoid it with the new one because all the issues are documented.
