For some reason the thought of selling my gaming PC came to mind. I'm trying to figure out whether or not to sell it and if I were to sell it how much it is worth...

The computer was built on April 1, 2014 and rebuilt when I got the new MOBO in August...

Specs are as follows:

CPU: AMD FX8320

MOBO: ASRock 990FX Killer

GPU: MSI R9 270

RAM: 16GB Ram (8GB 2x4 G.Skill Ripjaws X 2133) (8GB 2x4 Corsair Vengeance 1600)

PSU: Corsair CX430 (should probably upgrade that lol)

CPU Cooler: Antec Kuhler H2O 620

SSD: Kingston SSDNOW V300

(Not selling my HDD's)

Shitload of fans

Thermaltake A60 Armor AMD Edition

So how much do you think I should sell it for? I plan on building another one with the money from the sale if I do... I also don't plan on selling my mouse, keyboard, monitor, or speaker setup.

Any help would be appreciated :)

Try $1,500? Seems pretty nice though. I'd suggest you add up how much all of the parts are worth, and then take 10-20% off that price.

Well, I did get all the parts for relatively cheap... total cost for me was around $900 :/ not sure how it got that low ;) I plan on building an Intel Core i7 4970K machine for around 950 if I can get the money :)

I'll give you seventy-three cents and a blue M&M for it.

But the question is, why would you want to sell it?

In that case, start high. Like $990, and see if you can get a profit maybe.

Did you use Newegg?

No, used Microcenter, Amazon, Newegg, and *some* CL (case and the Corsair ram (traded a Hyper 212 and some fans for it ;) but they are good quality)

I just sold my rig for $1100. My total cost of parts was ~$1200. The motherboard and the 1TB hard drive were 4 years old, everything else had been replaced over the 4 years I had it.

CPU: i5-655k @ 3.2Ghz

CPU Cooler: Corsair H100

Motherboard: Asus P7H55D-M EVO

RAM: Corsair XMS3 8GB 1600Mhz

GPU: HIS Radeon HD 6950 2GB GDDR5 unlocked to 6970 specs

PSU: EVGA SuperNOVA 750 B2

SSD: Kingston SSDNow 120GB

HDD: Toshiba DT01ACA300 3TB, Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 1TB

ODD: LG GH24NS50 DVD burner

OS: Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit

Case: Customized Corsair SPEC-03 Red with Red LEDs and Carry Handles

Fans: 2x Rosewill Hyperbora 140mm, 2x Corsair SP120 Red 120mm, 1x Corsair AF120 Red 120mm

Monitors: 3x AOC 2236vw 1920x1080 60,000:1 Dynamic Contrast Ratio

Monitor Stand: Triple Monitor Desk Clamp Stand

Monitor Backlighting: Ikea DIODER LED light strip set

Input Devices: Dell L100 Keyboard, Razer 2014 Naga Hex Molten Mouse, Wacom Bamboo pen Tablet, Custom Belkin n52 Gaming Pad

Windows Experience Index: 6.9

Processor: 7.1

Memory (RAM): 7.1

Graphics: 7.6

Gaming Graphics: 7.6

Primary Hard Disk: 6.9

If you can do it, do it. Aim high, man. Put all the parts in PC Part Picker to get a current build cost, then take like $100 off.

But why upgrade? Your PC already has some killer specs.

The problem is that some of my parts are either not on there or are hugely overpriced...

It's running hot and I can't figure out why (it's throttling in BF4 on Medium settings at 65C and idling at just over 110F, it used to idle at room temp)

That and my dad has actually NOTICED an increase in our electric bill (and I run it for probably 7 hours per night)

/sigh

that and I can get profit out of this one and buy the Intel (much better and the tech isn't 3 years old already)

Total came out to around $1100 (not including the monitor, kb, mouse, or speakers LOL) and that was with the crappy 430w PSU and not the 750 (which died like 2 months ago LOL I still haven't RMA'd it yet)

I ran a PCPP estimate and came up with $939 before rebates. Pretty accurate to what you were saying you've spent on it. Note this total does not include fans.

http://pcpartpicker.com/p/krVCgs

My estimate would be to sell it at $900 obo. It's cheaper than the parts costs for it, yet right around what you paid for it.

As a long time builder and ITGuy, please stay away from the ASROCKs. Actually, I would avoid your build entirely based on that and the Corsair CX430. Good brand on the PSU but a little too close to minimum wattage (if not right at) and screams imminent failure on a warm day.

As for the cooling issue you mentioned elsewhere, its probably your shit-ton of fans... What are the temps? Ambient room temps? Negative air pressure? What paste did you use for the CPU?

As for what I would pay and consider it generous: ~$600. (Crappy board, non-ideal PSU, no OS and no drives... I think $450 is really more fair...

Crappy board? That board has really good ratings on Newegg! Link

The PSU was replaced with an EVGA Supernova 750G2 which broke a while ago and I haven't RMA'd it yet

I may or may not include my Seagate 500GB HDD

It has Windows 8 on it right now (a LEGIT copy at that)

Asrock are crappy boards and they sort of game the reviews with their quality.

What Asrock is: A lowest bid built ASUS designed board. So they benchmark and review great. But give it the life of a board and they are horribly unreliable garbage, after the selling lifespan of the product (retail life span) is gone.

It is a lot like cars, you can't actually know how reliable the latest Civic or 325i is right now, reviews might say one thing "No problems in sight" but give it a few years after the car is off the market and the issues can be very, very different.

Definitely get the PSU upgraded or RMA'd.

Are you going to include the OS at least otionally? If so, with OS add another $1-150.

I would also throw in the hard drive, no reason not to if you want a good return on the system AND money for either an SSD or a Seagate MomentusXT Hybrid drive.

I see. What I think you are forgetting is that the people who use these types of boards upgrade relatively often (to stay current). Most boards used like these (I think) don't go through their whole operating life expectancy.

I'm not sure about the PSU, the 10 year warranty is in my name...

Yes, the OS is going to be included, fresh install on the SSD

I might throw in the HDD, but it has all 250GB of my games on it... I guess this is when it is good that I have 2 extra 1 TB HDDs ;)

Upgrade often, maybe... But you never know when it will fail and many people would rather have a board known for quality as well as speed and performance, especially in that enthusiast segment where $30-100 is the norm to gain 1-3fps in whatever the latest game is...

Also, Asrock has earned a bad name overall, it benchmarks well but many a vet will avoid them.
