im always amazed at the punishment people put on those open knuckle u-joints. actually what amazes me is how lucky people are that they DON'T often end in a wreck. I'm not in love with birfields, but man....i'll take a grease bathed birf over an open u any day.

This is why putting all your eggs in one basket by making the U-joints part of the suspension is the best idea ever.

I've got one wearing out on the front shaft of the wife's e320. I envy you. Mine are not replaceable, needs a whole shaft. Luckily 'cheap' aftermarket options are available.
