there are little places here in Houston that do them cheap. I did my A6 and M3 for $95 each, no lie. Yay Juan's Auto glass lol :]
So many options in your town though, just call around

Don't cheap out on a windshield. Get an OEM and not an OEM equivalent. There are a multitude of reasons why you shouldnt get an OEM equivalent (Google if you're really curious), but the biggest one (for me) is that many of the times the windshield has shit clarity and a lot of waviness. I recently had 2 windshields replaced via insurance with OEM equivalent ones and both were wavy and made me feel like I was on acid while driving. I had both replaced with OEM (in this case, Carlite) windshields and all was well. It cost me a few dollars out of pocket, but there's no way in hell I could stand looking through something that distorted my view.

Some companies just give you a windshield claim every few years. No fault, no rate change.

i don't think that should make it go up. I thought it was only accidents and moving violations. Like you can get a parking ticket with out it increasing.

Repairs under $1000 don't usually affect rates unless you have a lot of them. Call your insurance and ask if the windshield will affect your premiums.
Either way, make a lot of calls, and try smaller local places. The big chains wanted ~$250 to do the one on my xB, a local shop did it for $155.

Is Safelite in your area? What about an automotive glass place? There's a business close to my girlfriends house (we're on the opposite side of the country) that replaces windshields, for way cheaper than the dealer. I'm surprised more places don't use them. Lucky for them, they're across the street from a really good indy body shop.

if its comprehensive it shouldn't affect your rates. Just pay the deductible (assuming it's less than the replacement windshield)

I've used Cascade Auto Glass before, they were only about $250 for the heated windshield on my range rover a few years ago. Last year when I had it done on my C230 MS Glass charged me under $200.
