I don't know much about them. The interior looks like one of the better that came from GM.

It's a GM truck. That's really about all that needs to be said. Supposedly, the straight six that came standard in it sucks and breaks all of the time.

The sad thing is that is one of the better GM interiors and it still looks like shit.

I'm assuming it's soft touch though.

Dunno, all I know is I've never been in any GM where I liked the interior.

My grandparents had one and it was quite good. Didn't have leather, had a V6. Was reliable and quite comfortable. Had roughly 85,000 when they traded it in for the Equinox they bought. Really only lost a rear wiper motor and I think a transfer case issue. Other than that nothing major in terms of reliability.

My experience with GM interiors are very limited, but I was in an Aura once. Hard plastic. Everywhere.

yeah vortec 4200
Though if you went up to an Envoy XL or a couple years newer, and Denali (xl or regular length) it could be had with the 5.3L
That's the winning combo

The 4.2 Atlas I6 is apparently pretty bullet-proof. There's a guy on my street who neglects the crap out of his and it just keeps going and going. The 5.3 Vortec V8, is well, a 5.3 Vortec V8 and doesn't die. The interior is perfectly comparable to anything Ford or Dodge was making at the time. Seats are really comfy. Though the Envoy's interior was way better than the Trailblazer's interior. There was also a half-truck half-SUV thing called the Envoy XUV. It won Motor Trend SUV of the year in '03 I think.

They came in three formats: normal, weird but cool (XUV) and ugly (XL). And they don't do so well on snow.

(Parents)Had a Trailblazer. It was very comfortable and surprisingly fast. The 4.2 Atlas is a brilliant engine, but sadly there is a GM 4-speed auto behind it that commonly shits itself.

The Yukon is abysmal after 100K, while my Envoy:
is in its prime, and hasn't had tons of work done. But then it's been running for a good long time now.
Though I'm partial to the Suburban these days,
I still have a soft spot for the Envoy.

They have issues with door electrical fires and randomly deploying side airbags.

Typical GM cheapness in their build quality. The I6 is a good motor, though.

Indestructible engine mated to a reasonable transmission, slotted between the rails of a very competent frame, with a decent body sitting on top and an interior by fisher-price.

I have weird internet friends that want to take the straight 6 from one of these and put it in a 240Z. Because the later ones made almost 300hp stock. And it's an aluminum DOHC straight 6.

This is my (old 2002 GMC Envoy SLT). It went through three different owner's, being me, my sister, and my father, before we sold it to Carmax when the radiator cracked with 220K on it.
The Good:
- The thing has decent pickup. Even for it's size, you can really push the base engine hard.
- It's aged pretty well. Our's was a 2002, and despite quite a few things breaking and wearing (headlight fade, interior plastics breaking), it it built pretty well.
- It was a nice roadtrip car or something to drive around town. It's like a mattress on wheels.
- Base stereo is pretty good.
The Bad:
- It got like 20MPG when new, and after 100K it was getting around 13MPG - tops.
- It doesn't like going fast (loud, things shake, etc)
- Terrible weight distribution. The thing sucked in the snow even with snow tires. The back is too light.
- After 100K, things went, and it was never cheap.
- Steering is too light and numb to instill any sort of confidence in driving
Overall, it's not a bad car in any way. In fact, I think it was better than most the $hit GM was spewing out at the time.
Apparently, our specific GMC is still running and well according to an Autocheck Report...

It's like wannabe nice surfaces, but they just come off as squishy and cheap. Door panels are complete plastic.

The entire headliner has the tendency to sag over time. It's not a big deal unless you have a sunroof. The wind gets under it and separates it even more. i'm not talking about like just the cloth headliner, but like the actual ceiling of the car.

I do love how the black Denali short wheelbase looks.
My father and I rented one for a day in the US which was a base model. It was pretty cramped in the back is all I remember.

False. The Atlas I6 used in these SUVs is actually quite robust and trouble-free. Not to mention it has shockingly-strong thrust in the upper revs.
I would have loved to see that engine further developed and used in other applications, as well as mated to at least a modern 6-speed instead of the lazy 4-speed it had.
