I just realized that ukuleles were fairly cheap (for a musical instrument) and I kind of want to buy one. Therefore, I need your opinions: to buy, or not to buy? That is the question. They are $35 for those that want to know and I'm used to spending several hundred dollars on guitars so this is incredibly cheap.

Edit: I probably should have also mentioned that I'm quite adept at music. I play guitar, sing, compose when the feeling is right.

There was an option for the poll generating site for users to input their own voting choice. Consider it a space for a write in candidate.

I bought one last year and I love it. Word of advice: don't buy the $35 ones. If you spend the $80 on the Lanikai LU22, you won't regret it.

But why spend money on a cheap instrument when you can spend money on an expensive instrument that will also drive everyone around you insane?

Get one, but spend a little more for one with geared tuners. Friction tuners on cheap ukes are terrible, they'll go out of tune in ten minutes. Budget a little more in the 60-80 range, and you'll get a lot more for your money.

NO! It was bad enough when the hippies started playing them and worse once the hipsters started playing with them. They're almost as bad as pan flutes.

I got one for my wife a few Christmases ago after we took some ukulele lessons in Hawaii on our honey moon. She loved it and played it a lot at first, but didn't stick with it. There's a thousand cool covers on YouTube you could learn. It actually really easy to play especially if you've got music experience. I'll echo what others said and spend a little more for a better one if you're going to be serious about it.

Yes, but definitely spend a little more than the bottom-of-the-barrel $35 ones. In my limited experience, most of the popular models in the $70-$80 sound a whole lot better, are more durable, and are easier to keep in tune.

Were you the one that suggested bagpipes in the "other" category? I'll have you know that my brother plays bagpipes.

Chanters aren't too expensive. That's what my brother practices on. The bag pipes are loud a shit though, he usually wears earplugs when he plays.

If you can learn to play a ukulele, you are just a hop skip and a jump from learning Bass, Upright bass, Cello and violin

I want to ruin the lives of everyone who lives on campus at 7 am Saturday morning, so that's not an issue.

I already play guitar, have played violin but I haven't had the desire to commit the time required to get good.

I'd say I'm a decent guitarist. Much better at lead guitar than rhythm because I'm not very good at multi tasking. That's what kept me from being any good at drums, I couldn't do the hand/feet thing.

4 string chords can be translated to any 4 stringed instrument. If you can play violin, Ukulele should be incredibly easy

You don't really play chords on a violin but I know what you mean.

Excellent, I support this life goal. You've gotta be good for it to be worth it though. Preferably playing battle charges...
