friend has a 2002 trailblazer with well over 225,000 miles and swears by it's reliability. Anyone have the cousin/sister suv: the Envoy? Any issues I should be aware of? Looking for A 2007 or newer with under 75,000 miles.

I hear the Atlas motor is pretty reliable, and of course the 5.3 is reliable. The transmissions are dated but sturdy and the underpinnings are pretty good. Its the interiors that are crap.

We had a 2006 and it was pretty good. Had a wiper motor go and a belt of some sort I think. Nothing too big went wrong with it.

I happen to have a 2002 Trailblazer myself, with just about 190K miles on it, and despite some issues of parts just wearing out it has been a champ. Most recently had to get the catalytic converter replaced.

I've got a 2004 Envoy with just a hair under 100k. It's been dead reliable mechanically. The fit/finish of interior materials is absolute garbage, though. The front door panels are held on by two cheap pieces of plastic that will eventually break. I've JB-welded them probably 6-7 times and they still break. You can't buy them as individual pieces either, unless you find them at a junk yard.

Overall it's a very solid vehicle. The Atlas I-6 is smooth and powerful, but thirsty. It's got plenty of room for hauling stuff, and it tows very well. The 4WD has been bulletproof and makes Iowa winters easy.

The only trouble I've had is with the damn door panels.

There's a guy on my street who neglects the crap out of his and it just keeps going and going and going. The interiors are plasticy, but it's no worse than a Suburbans of the same years.

My friend has a 03 Trailblazer, the XL one with the 5.3. Hes about 10000 miles from 200k and the only things Ive heard that hes had to replace were 2 coils and a power steering pump. If you can deal with the 2000's american made quality interior its a great truck. We've done a few road trips in it and it rides like a dream.

I have a 2002 TB as well. 115000 so far. Only thing Ive replaced thats not a normal wear item is an hvac actuator. Engine is great, trans is great. Body on frame so thats great too. Interior is fine, not Bentley quality, but Im fine with it.

I work at a full service shop. And Trailblazers/Envoys rarely have any issues.

Nail on the head. I've used enough JB Weld fixing the door panel mounting brackets that I could have just fabbed new ones out of JB Weld completly.

Eh, the transmissions are more like hit and miss. We had one, it died at 90k. On the plus side, they are cheap as shit to rebuild. Like 400 bucks to have someone else at a shop rebuild it, cheap.

The 9-7 didn't have the 4L60?

We had a Trailblazer, I'd like a 9-7 though. But yes they have the 4L60shit.

I've had two 4L60Es ('94 Blazer and '04 Envoy, lol don't change too fast, GM) and haven't had a single bit of trouble with either.

I have an 03 TB with 76k...There are some issues with these vehicles, nothing too major but still annoying.

Window seals - Always check the bottoms of the rear doors for rot. The seals go bad and allow water in. Causes wind noise, some funky smells and the door speakers to short out. It is why most of the radio's go bad in these vehicles too.

Front Hub bearings - I've heard you're lucky to put 30k on a set. Timken bearings are the highest quality (better than OEM) but they're expensive. I've replaced one after 2 weeks.

The 4WD, although reliable is susceptible due to design flaws. Usually around 100k, the 4X4 light comes on and the axle disconnect needs to be rebuilt. The grease breaks down and seizes the disconnect, preventing the 4X4 from engaging.

As others have stated, they are smooth running vehicles that can tow and haul a ton. As with most GM products from the 2000's, they sell well based off of the spec sheets and not practicality. HP, Torque all match competitors, but the HP is made above 4kRPM. The result is poor fuel economy. The rear seats fold, but not too helpfully. The interior quality is subpar. Overall, they are decent vehicles but keep in mind the shortcomings. There are also millions of interior combinations, check the RPO codes in the glovebox for the options you want. GM sold millions of these and the prices have dropped significantly, you can almost always find one optioned the way you want for a good price.
