Are engine problems on Miatas common-ish? My mom's has a shitton of miles and only problem is the paint and the eating of batteries.

What Miata do you have? I never hear much about engine issues. My 03 has been flawless

What kind of Miata do you have that is giving you engine troubles?

NA. More like ignition issues, which is fairly common among them. The ignition system is somewhat antiquated. I plan to upgrade them to a more modern coil on plug setup

NA. I believe I'm getting some misfire issues from a wonky coil pack. I'm upgrading it to a coil on plug setup

No, not really. To be specific, my problem lies with the ignition system. Coil packs are a kind of known failure point. The ignition system is fairly antiquated in this car. I plan on upgrading to a modern coil on plug setup

haha just saw all your responses. With the issues those antiquated systems are known to have, have you considered upgrading to a modern coil on plug setup?

Yea the old coil packs are known to go bad after a while. 1.6 or 1.8?

Yeah I ordered Fab9's COP conversion kit today. I would have made my own with Toyota coils, but I was worried about frying them because of the dwell settings. Fab9's kit comes with it's own ignitor.

1.8. The car only has like, 55,000 miles but I guess anything is possible with age. Hopefully the new setup will be more reliable in the long run, and eek out a wee bit more performance

Yes the copper and other materials just wear with age. From what ive heard the coil on plug packs seem to work very well. My 03 came stock with them
