So as some of you know, I recently joined the college Formula SAE team. Last night they announced a team cookout at a place at the adjacent town. Since this is 50 miles away from my house, I managed to get a carpool arrangement with some other guys to leave from the university. Put the time in my phone, all is well.

Get home, next morning talk to my dad who gets pissed because he had plans (which I never knew about) tonight, and I had to fight him the whole way to let me go.

I finally leave, get up there, and nobody is at the university. Search my emails, find the number of one of the guys, turns out they left an hour earlier and I was SOL.

So either I heard them wrong or my finger slipped when I put it in my phone, but here I sit at home on Saturday night when I could be at the first party I've ever fucking been invited to.

To further matters, I am so fucking sick of this goddamn pisscunt college. They fucked me over this summer by not sending the link they said they'd send for some bullshit preadvising I had to do before I could sign up for classes, and by the time I realized this and signed up for them it was too late, and the earliest appointment was *three weeks before classes start* so I've had to deal with a clusterfuck'd schedule because all the classes I wanted were taken.

Now?

Spring enrollment is coming up, and I have a new advisor I have to meet with! Only problem? He/she won't respond to any email I've sent them, and there is no other contact info listed, and when I ask other people who to contact about this they just say "your advisor"

Thanks, cunts.

So whenever this fuckwad advisor finally emails me back and sets up an appointment, THEN I'll FINALLY be able to enroll in spring classes, but it's already too late most likely and I'm once again thoroughly fucked.

On the plus side, my dad is happy I didn't end up going anywhere this evening, though pissed I made the trip allll the way up to the university and back for nothing.

Fuck.

Why would you have a cookout 50 miles from campus?

As a dog owner I can confirm this.

Things are very spread out in Kansas.

Not 50 miles from campus, 50 miles from my house. It's 30 miles north of campus and I live 20-ish miles south. That's the location of the only one of us who has his own house big enough for having a party.

Me too. She likes to sit in hidden spaces and watch me to make sure I'm still here. Silly dog.

Everyone else either has a small-ass apartment or lives on-campus

My pet cockatiel is the same, when she can hear me, but not see, she starts chirping in a worried way.

It's annoying as hell right now, but the registration/advising clusterfuck you're dealing with is probably as important a learning experience as any of your actual classes.

The lesson of course is that poorly run bureaucratic nightmares are everywhere and sometimes you just gotta suck it up and deal with it. It sucks ass, but it's true.

It'll be great, they said. You'll meet lots of girls, they said.

If I wanted to deal with more bureaucratic nightmares I'd sue someone in small claims court again.

JESUS CHRIST there is nothing that can top the inefficiency of the government.

Yeah...No. What type of school do you go to?

Primarily an engineering school, but there is also a rather large arts college and business school as well

In which case, I'm assuming the guy to girl ratio is in favor of more guys than girls; and the girls there are most likely in relationships.

How would I know this, you might ask?
I go to an engineering school.

I'm going to casually hint that you might want to take up a liberal arts minor if you want to see girls.

Ah college, you never change. When I started college 15 years ago, my grandmother, who attended college 60 years before me, gave me a piece of advice. "Don't ever listen to your advisor. They're all fucking idiots." She did not often swear, and she was absolutely right. My suggestion, show up at their office and get it over with. Then read the course catalog to figure out for yourself what you really need.

Sucks that you missed the cookout.

Just call the advising center. Set up an appointment with any of them, doesn't really matter. Job done.

Or go there in person. Not to be rude here, but it's on you to get your appointment, not them. Took me a while to figure it out too, but you have to follow up and be persistent.

My ex's cat was like that. As soon as I get close with the fart cannon he comes running to the door.
