Since I'm probably not test driving any nice cars at my age, I talked to my dad and he's off Monday for some tire kicking and maybe ideas for a next car (his, not mine—and aside from Miata, base 996, toyobaru, and C5 not options). So far I've found an E90 M3 Competition Pack 6MT, '06 Viper (!), and M6 GC 6MT at one dealership. No way they will be letting us test drive all three, and those are all way too expensive to be believable. Porsche dealership, '13 Boxster S 6MT and a 996 turbo maybe? Another BMW dealership, FRS and C5Z. Two reasonably priced cars! I can't find any nice naturally aspirated manual BMWs nearby, last-gen caymans, or 90s Japanese poster cars, but the day looks pretty full already. It should be amazing, if all works out. Maybe a 3 pedal Miata to show the difference an extra pedal makes in a Miata will round off the list. Here's the perfected version of the hipsterrific C4 picture.

I highly recommend making the M6 GC your priority.

That's my intention! I'll probably only ever have one chance to get behind the wheel of one and be able to row my own. I internally flipped out when I saw that come up under the manual transmission filter.

Haha even that would be on the upper end of his budget right now. I just hope I change his mind about keeping an autotragic NC for eternity. I'm sure it'll be a lot of fun to have the spawn of the C4 to drive

But it's an NC! There's no nostalgia factor or anything, and it's not like it's the lowest price point. Monday is when I plant the seed of more interesting cars

Oh! That's probably a good call; it's THE Miata IMO. There's an RX7 FD turbo 5 speed he could buy cheaply. He has to pay off the NC while it depreciates, then hopefully Monday's experience will help him look at other options and maybe expand his budget a bit when he retires or something. Honestly, what he's looking for ideally is basically my mom's Z4 (comfortable but sporty 2 sweater convertible), which is ironic. There's also the Boxster, which is quite affordable in clean first gen S guise.

This is on my in-the-next-5-years-once-price-comes-down list. I am worried about finding one in a good color though, I don't want a neutral car again when they have the sweet colors like orange

Yeah, the late first gens are pretty good cars. I'd get the RX7 if possible, that car is sweet.

Yeah, I'd like any Boxster but if it's an earlier one it would have to be an S. The new ones are super expensive obviously, but good cars from what I've heard. If I were spending $60,000+ on a newer Porsche, it's be 997.2 C2S for me, though

It's basically the best all around porsche. If I were given $60,000 to spend on Porsches it might be 968 convertible and 3.2 Carrera (G50 transmission preferable). One's an easy going but fun car for nice drives, and the other is a classic 911 that's super fast. Both the ultimate evolutions of their lineage.
