Not very fast but has ALLLLL the torque. 10 MPG, but it holds like... 40 gallons.
I mean yeah not pretty, BUT FREE. Courtesy of my uncle, whom I also got my Geo Tracker from. This will be my DD until I get the Camry sorted.
It's a 1976 Custom Deluxe Fleetside, 350ci, 3-speed Auto, 4-wheel drive, trailer-brake controller thing, and Dimmer switch on the floor!
I'm thinking it needs the 4-barrel carb, perhaps the cam from a Camaro? Ideas?

congrats mate, I've actually driven one of these before (they aren't nearly as common or as cheap in Australia) sliding rear window? Why don't Aussie Utes have these!? Loves to lock up the rear brakes.
I delivered spare parts in it but it had "Helicopter Pilot Training" written down the side of it from the previous owners ... Man I loved driving that around lol
You will have to swap manifolds to change to a four barrel if it's a two barrel but will likely leave you over fueled if the rest of the package remains the same. But you have one if the best bases for cheap modifications out there!

Excellent!
Prefer the step-side myself. Like my grandfather's old pickup:

Its a SBC. The only limit to what you can do to that engine is literally your imagination because everything has been done. That's about as good a free vehicle as I've heard of...nice score!

Nah, you want a low end torque cam. That way you just need to sort the rear suspension and brakes, and voilà.
Instant car transporter. Just add two axle braked flatbed trailer.
Because racecar.

I am insanely jealous right now. My dad had a '79 Custom Deluxe 4x4 with a 4-speed when I was a kid. This is my favorite body style.
If you do swap the carb and intake, don't go crazy and put a big one on it. That would kill your drivability.

What about turning it into a 5-cylinder? Because Volvo

A mild cam and 4 barrel certainly would wake it up. Also AWESOME truck.

No problem! The spark plug wires are easy enough to pull, and he could rent it out as a mobile paint mixer. There's no downside!

You should swap a 4 or 5 speed manual - Cheap and easy on these trucks, the only mod really is you have to drill rivets out of the floor for the shifter. The engine needs the four barrel and if no trans swap, gear venders overdrive. Turn that 3 speed to a 6!

Awesome! Thats a great truck at a price no one can beat!
Id say have fun with some plastidip and have a go at painting it another color. Id black it all out.
Then id say add maybe a 2-4 inch lift. Maybe just a size up on the tire/rim combo. Make it more than capable for offroad shenanigans. Oh an cant forget a nice exhaust to make that v8 sound just right. Maybe a cheap magnaflow or something. And that cool visor thing at the top of the windsheild. Ive always liked the look of those:
Oh a bull/brush bar, and some Hella lights on the front would be sweet. And lastly, some big mudflaps.
But the skies the limit! Just have fun!
