Don't be shy.

Thats better.

Just a nice little R8 V10 hanging out in my parking garage. I wasn't even down there to take pictures, I was on my way to a video shoot and had the camera in hand. Not bad.

I've never been a fan of red cars, but that looks really good with the carbon fiber blade.

But at least there's a chance he was in there since you didn't see proof that he wasn't :)

A Manuél R8 would be so sweet. Best DD ever for someone that doesn't have kids.

I would prefer it over R Tronic or S Tronic for sure.

Only way I'd consider R Tronic is if the used R8 was at least $25K cheaper than the Manuél version. But I've checked and that's not the case.

Hmm... I think the R8 is a great car but "Best DD ever for someone that doesn't have kids" is a bold statement. I can think of a few alternatives.

At least the best one I could think of at the moment.

My personal reasons for thinking so:

1. Available (for now) with a gated shifter

2. RMR layout (my personal preference)

3. Available in V8 or V10

4. More exotic than a 911 but less exotic than a Ford GT or Ferrari (which is good for DD, you don't want to stand out too much in a DD)

5. Pretty reliable for a high power RMR car

6. Has a lot of creature comforts like heated seats, nav, bluetooth. You can also pick the flappy paddle if that's a requirement

7. Supposed to be pretty safe in an accident, at least for a sports car

I'm guessing MP4-12C is on that list? :p

Alright if all of those requirement are in place, then yes it is the best. However, I would really argue that the absolute best DD is the 12c. The prices have fallen drastically since the 650S came out, the suspension is terrific, its styling is subtle, it has a MR layout, it can be very sporty when you want it to be, it gets terrific gas mileage for the segment, it has all the features you need, and it has a transmission that is super quick but also smooth. So, if you can live without a manual, then I think it's the ideal choice.

That being said, if you have small children and want a car with a manual, huge trunk, outstanding interior, classy good looks, intoxicating exhaust note, and sporty but not harsh ride quality, then you need a Aston Martin DBS. Literally one of the best cars I've ever owned.

Really. I'd take any other (factory) color GT over a red one. While I still think a red GT is a beautiful car - more so than the R8 - red just doesn't do it for me.

I dunno, I don't even really like red Ferraris unless its their darker red. BUT my mom had a red Saab 900 S and I thought that was awesome. Call me crazy.

The 12C is the better car for sure. I'd rather have a 12C than an R8. I just dunno if I could DD a 12C. I think I would stand out a bit too much. I see R8s occasionally where I live but I rarely see the 12C. And I go out a lot by myself late at night to get take out food. I'd almost be worried about looking a bit too fancy in the 12C.

If I still lived in Newport Beach then the 12C would be perfect. It's as common as the R8 is in north Orange County. Meaning you don't see one every day, but you might see 2 in one day.

Here is the only solution: have a barn that has the current cars plus the 12C, R8 and DBS :)

I can respect that. Red isn't my favorite color either. I'd much rather have a dark blue metallic any day.

You're not crazy at all. Every is unique in their likes and dislikes.

Preach. Dark blue metallic and dark green peal or metallic are some of my favorite paint colors. They just hit all the right marks.

Really? Here in Dallas I see at least 2 to 4 every week. Though, I will admit that the R8s are more common. Interesting, I've actually had really positive reactions to the 12c. Most people know that it's a sports car but don't have a negative stigma about it because they've never heard of a "McLaren." Also, it's a very subtle design that is distinctive but not in-your-face. In fact, I feel like you would probably get more attention in the R8, as it's much prettier in my eyes at least.

Interesting. I love Newport Beach but adore Carmel-by-the-Sea. In our younger years, my wife and I actually owned a house on Scenic Road and would rent it out for 10-11 months out of the year when weren't visiting. You're very lucky to live in such a beautiful state.

Wow. 2 to 4 a week is a lot! I don't even see that many R8s a week. I might see one R8 a week on average. Some weeks none. Every blue moon I might see two in one day.

Interesting that you get such positive reactions to the McLaren. That's pretty awesome! I can see how a lot of people don't know the brand. But I thought it would still stand out as it's definitely exotic looking. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder but I think it's fair to say that the 12C and 650S are exotic-looking. The stance, the RMR layout, the doors, etc. make it very different from a 911 or Corvette.

Carmel-by-the-Sea is awesome! I went there once years ago. Newport is definitely more populated and hectic.

Well, I think that's more due to the neighborhood I live in than anything else.

Oh, it definitely stands out but I think people like it because it's so different from anything else on the road and they don't know the brand and therefore don't have a preconceived notion about it. By far, everyone's favorite part about it is the doors.

Has Newport grown quite a bit in the last few years? I haven't been there in at least 5 years.

I posted this with you in mind:
