So Watkins Glen, the greatest road course of all time, is set to repave next summer! This will bring to an end those famous concrete patches in the corners. So because of this the SVRA US Vintage Grand Prix will now be held July 24-26. Usually it's the weekend after Labor Day, but not next year. Guess I'll be there 2x in about the span of a Month. Sadly though this means I won't have the lovely weekend that breaks up that first few days of school and the rest of the year like I've had all my life. That's a bit saddening for me, but it's nice to see the track is getting repaved.

I thought the greatest road course was the Nurburgring?

See you there. Just ordered my six hour tickets and waiting on final counts for vintage.

6 Hour is a great race, and if you get the chance go to the Vintage Cup. It's an amazing event. So many nice old cars there.

I usually end up only going to the car show and drive through the village at Vintage, but that may change this year.

You have to see them drive the track. It's amazing. So many sound so great at full tilt (kinda, depends on the driver) too

I may have a spot on a "pit crew" with someone this coming year. Need to flesh out deets, but grabbing some tire readings before and after his session is preferable to the $60 ticket. (So much easier to stomach at $30.)

Awesome. I'm free because it's 19 and under free, a good thing about 16 here. Good luck with it, maybe I'll see you at some point.

The joys of growing up - I have to buy my ticket and the wife's ticket (even though she doesn't want to go). Plus I try to be nice and pick up the old man's and his brother's (since we usually stay at his lake house).

One free ticket is worth it's weight in gold! Lol.

Haha, yeah. It's nice though. Helps get people into racing without having to spend nearly $80 for them to not be enjoying it if they don't like it.

Monaco is a street course and the Nurburgring is a public road.

Yup, I have been hearing rumors now Printup has confirmed most of them. I wonder what the downtown festival for the Vintage GP is going to be like. Also I love the fact that they will open the Argetsinger Grandstand to watch the paving.

I know they had been talking about this for a while but I didn't think they were actually going to do it. Looks like Im gonna lose an HPDE or two next year.

While I'm bummed that it means less racing next season (probably), the track was definitely starting to get in bad shape. You could not stay on line at the top of the esses or you would be faced with a surface similar to the moon. I hope that the new pavement holds up well and the track is rocket fast. We shall see. Definitely check out the SCCA Majors, whenever it is, it promises to be a big turnout and the racing is always good. Is it spring yet?

They start with the boot after the Vintage Cup and full out starts after NASCAR, so likely no racing after July that isn't NASCAR.

I have heard/seen clubs use the short course. They usually go pretty low key on events around the time they are projecting the Vintage Festival (late weekend in July). It will be interesting to see how they juggle clubs that have dates until October into almost three months less track time.

Maybe more early season events.
