I picked up my Michelin Pilot A/S 3's yesterday, and there's only one thing I have to say. Holy. Fuck. these tires are so good, it's ridiculous! they make the Dunlop SP Sport (previous tires I had on the GLI) look like rubber bands! The grip is INSANE! it's like the car is secreting adhesive on to the road or something! This is a good tire. 11/10 would order again in a heartbeat. well worth the $725 cost.
and here's an extra pic of the GLI, because I love her so much!

I haven't had those, but I feel the same way about my Michelins (Pilot Super Sports are my three-season tire).

Holy. Fuck. is two things.
I mourn the passing of my Eagle GTs. They don't make any more and I will miss them next time.

What size tires?

The only brand I use on my cars.

they're 225/40/R18's

Good choice.

I just got 4 of these as an early Xmas gift. Now I just need to replace my controls arms and I can put them on...

cool! what car are they going on?
![]() 11/05/2014 at 15:41 |

Word, I got a set in spring and they totally transformed the car. They do get a little squirrely if they're cold and you try to push them, but that's with any tire. Dry grip (in warm weather) and hydroplane resistance is out of this world insane. Not sure if I'm going to try them in snow, but that's why I have dedicated snow tires.
Enjoy!

If you really want some crazy grip, try some Direzza ZIIs. They're useless in cold weather and wear quickly (they're track tires), but I can't go back to normal tires now.

These tries are insane, I mean, they have more dry grip than most summer tires!

Ugh. I need new tires desperately.

Hell yes...Michi PSS is the tire of choice in my garage for street and some track use.

Nice! Like mentioned earlier if they are anything like the PSS's then you made a fine choice.

My Michelin alpin snow tires feel like the super sports of the snow tire world too.

I love those tires! I have a set on my old Focus and will be getting a set for the wife's. The levels of grip are astounding and it feels like a lot more than the old Pilot Sport Exaltos I used to run, with the same tread life too! I couldn't stop raving about them to the Michelin reps the last time I was at Laguna Seca.

I was thinking about getting a set of these for my Golf when I get different wheels next summer. 225/45R17 is the stock size for 17s (my current wheels are 15s) and I definitely won't go any wider than that. It's just an econobox but I definitely need better tires that the stock 195/65R15 Contis.

really? I had those on my Challenger SRT8 and I thought they were crap.
![]() 11/05/2014 at 16:12 |

You should step up to summer only tires next time around. They will put those all seasons to shame.

yeah, sure, especially up here in WA state, where it rains 70% of the year :P
jokes aside, I prefer A/S tires, since I can't afford and have no space to store a 2nd set

*225/40/R18. The autobahn's rims are a bit bigger!
and a friend of mine has a beetle on those continentals. I drove it once.... they suck in contrast!

oh I will!

Those Dunlop SP Sports (2050's for my car) came stock from factory. Those tires were complete bullshit, for me at least. Lasted under 15k miles and hated me for every second of it.
![]() 11/05/2014 at 16:33 |

No, for my car (golf 1.8TSI) the 17s you can get on one of the trims get 225/45R17s. I mentioned that because 17" is the size I'm likely to go to for the summer wheels.

They're not as good as blizzaks in deep snow but they have much better dry cold traction which is what my m3 usually goes through.

I agree! only, I stretched mine out to last 26K miles.
Let's just say my rears had under 1/32 left on them when I changed to the mich's

I actually ALMOST bought a set of these exactly a week ago. I was between that and Conti's Extreme Contact DWS. The difference being mine are slightly wider. 245-40-19 front and 285-35-19 rears. So cost was.. :'( a bit more. Almost twice as much
Either way, how do they handle in the rain/snow? That was my biggest concern since those look like they have slightly less aggressive thread pattern and perhaps less ability to work in the snow than the DWS (s for snow for the Conti's). But i've had 0 experience with either, so I went with what one of the guys with a Z has which are the DWS. But then again, I know nothing about winter/all-season tires

oh ok! and wait, you have a Mk7 golf??? since when?

Most performance summer tires are better in the rain than A/S tires, in addition to in the dry.

just saw!!!
Congrats!!! :D
I almost got one as well, but the GLI's CPO price was too good!
talk to Vicentvan.... he has a 1.4TSi one!

Thanks man. I wanted a Mk.7 but the GTI was outside of what I wanted to spend. I may very well trade it for a CPO GTI in a couple of years when the difference in value isn't as big ($12K+ if I want a 5 door GTI, which I do). For now, 170hp will have to suffice.

I just got these same tires to replace my really badly worn Sport A/S Plus (that came on the car) and I agree, they're incredible. They offer so much grip it's ridiculous. There's also a lot tread, so I hope these tires last awhile.
When I got my new fronts on the steering transformed! It became lighter yet more responsive (Which shows how bad the old ones were). On top of that, my car rides so good now. And they perform great in the rain to. In short, I love these tires.

If you don't get snow or Ice you should try the Super Sports sometime. They are amazing in the wet and dry.
If you look at test the michelins super sport are clearly the best tire you can buy unless you have an actual race car or live in the snow.
Theres a great car and driver like 9 tire comparison with tons of data in terms of mph grip etc of all these tires including ah f it here u go (they are testing in wet also)
http://media.caranddriver.com/files/monsters…
http://www.caranddriver.com/comparisons/mo…
The Michelin PSS finished with the second-quickest lap in both the wet and dry autocrosses, just 0.1 and 0.2 second behind the leaders, respectively.
The PSS has the best balance of wet and dry performance we've ever experienced in testing. The minute compromises in each discipline make "super" a worthy part ofits name. It's our winner.

Michelin ftw, honestly not trying to be that troll guy but I think Goodyear's suck. Admittedly I haven't had a set for 5 years+

I don't know if Goodyears suck. I just know that Michelins are terrific.
