I used to follow the Motor Authority Facebook page. Whenever there was a post about any American car, things went normally. ONE post about any sort of Japanese car- even a Toyota 2000GT- all you would get is “Jap crap piece of shit” or “just a fucking toyota LOL!”

Then there are the JDM fanboys (specifically the GT-R fanboys) who would lash out on ANYTHING that wasn’t Japanese. Specifically on any YouTube video comparing the GT-R with any other car not from Japan, the fanboys would be there with “LOL gtr forever fuck that piece of shit” or “cant even compete bro this shit is stupid.”

Obviously these aren’t exactly what you’d find, but you get my point.

And then there are people who take a look at my Kinja name (The Honda Man), or notice I like Japanese cars, and assume I’m some JDM-obsessed fanboy who worships rice burners and stancenation, and therefore deserve to be scolded. Just because I take a liking to Japanese cars doesn’t mean I’m into that kind of culture.

It’s this kind of animosity in the car world that really irritates me. I used to have a friend who would shit on me constantly about talking about BMW and Honda, and go on praising Ford like he usually does. He didn’t take lightly to the fact that I didn’t like the 2013 Mustang even though I experienced one in person.

I like to say that, to be a true car person, you must be impartial and respect all cars. I like Japanese cars, but I also like the shit out of muscle cars and European luxury cars as well. Just because you don’t like a specific car, doesn’t mean it’s a terrible car, or that you deserve to lash out on anyone who happens to like it.

That’s my quick rant.

This. This is horribly frustrating. It's like the Chevy/Ford, Mustang/Camaro fanboi war that forever wages on. NEITHER IS BETTER OR WORSE THAN THE OTHER, YOU FUCKS. GET OVER IT.

Another thing I can't stand is when people ask for help finding a new car. You'll offer up a great car that checks all the boxes, only for them to say something ignorant such as "Nah, that's not gonna work. I hate [insert company name here]."

Just to be clear, 'European' cars aren't quite as homogenised as one might think. I spend more time arguing the merits of French cars with boneheaded German-car enthusiasts than I do in any other form of ridiculously childish automotive conflict. (To be clear, it's not like I hate German cars, or anything; I just really don't like the attitudes of some of the people who like them.)

That irritates me. Yes, people should respect ALL types of cars. There may be certain models or makes of cars that I dislike, but I don't disrespect them. There's good and bad to be found in just about every vehicle out there. I can't think of ONE single vehicle that doesn't have some sort of flaw or negative aspect, but beyond that, I can't think of any single car that doesn't have multiple positives to outweigh that. There may be some universally disliked cars out there, but each one has some sort of charm to it, and every car for the most part, is furthering the future of automotive design. As long as the makers respect the idea of the automobile, and as long as the enthusiasts respect THAT, then all is good. Unfortunately, the most vocal ones are usually the worst ones.

I'm a huge ford fan. I drive a Subaru. I wanted a manual, something quick but could still haul a family, decent gas mileage fun to drive, reliable. The FoST ticked all the boxes except AWD which to me was a big deal. I almost had a V70R but they were too expensive and unreliable, same with Audi BWM and Merc. I hit all 3 continents without bias. It was all based on facts not some dumb opinion.

I don't get mad when people are super opinionated about cars. That's their right. I don't even get mad when they prefer one brand.

But when they argue about something they are completely uneducated about or push a brand/nationality even when they are clearly worse, then I get pissed.

Yep, the Aztek was pretty ugly, but it served its purpose well, and it was a learning experience. Even the Cimarron, it's pretty much universally hated overall, but I'm sure that there is someone out there that owns one and loves it, and that's enough. And if a car is critically hated enough, well, hopefully the designers and engineers learn from their mistakes and do better next time around. Look at Dodge/Chrysler, not even 10 years ago, their vehicles were generally underwhelming, but they did right and now they're banging out some mighty impressive vehicles, and I think that's an impressive turnaround. They finally realized for the most part, these vehicles just weren't great, a lot of problems, a lot of blandness, and now, they've got some of the best products out there. People will still hate. They'll say the Challenger is too heavy, or that they still use outdated platforms, but for a company that nearly went under completely, one of the oldest automobile manufacturers in the world, they really did well, and that deserves a lot of respect. Same with GM. They were having a lot of problems, but now they have a pretty good lineup too. Sure, there's the recall issue, but it's finally being dealt with. There's been a lot of success stories, and a lot of good cars made. And I don't care if you're a fan of Italian exotics, German luxury cars, little JDM powerhouses, or fancy, big Detroit iron, it's a great time to be a gearhead, and love every car for what it is. Like I said, every car has it's good traits. Every single one.

I'm a fan of all sorts. I love the Lotus 7, and I would enjoy a JDM car, but I can live with a typical car that isn't 2JZ. I love the Volvos, and even a RWD american land yacht. If I had a Austin Mini, i'd probably swap a VTEC Honda engine in there. I love the 335i wagon. I love Syclones. It's probably that because I open myself up to these different areas, and discover what I like in that area. As much as brotrucks are awful, I'd like get a lifted truck sometime in my life for a bit. I agree with you hondaman. Nothing's perfect, even the most perfect JDM builds or the show car build or any insane build someone could take up. Everything has pros and cons.

Well those kinds of things can be easily remedied by basically driving a bunch of different cars. When I was naive, I didn't like mustangs in the least bit till a friend tossed me the keys to his GT. Now I own one. My neighbor let me drive his 396 chevelle, now I love everything without powersteering from the '60s that drinks gas by the gallon. Drove a z06 at autocross, now I have an obsession with corvettes since they're so damn balanced. My friends miata showed me I love convertibles; I love my diesel f350; I love my other friends' Si's and RSXs; I love burbly wrxs; I love turbo'd jdm anything...

Basically, if you've driven someone else's sportscar that they've poured love into, you can't hate it. It's impossible. I'm sure I'd even love stanced and donked cars after driving them.

overall I try to be impartial, very few vehicles I hate. I like some American, jappanese, British, German, Italian, & anything inbetween.

when I look for a vehicle its hard, as there is too much that catches my eye. & for a laugh, the last 4 wheel vehicle I bought was a Roush edition Ford F150, but I almost bought a restored 1968 VW bug, & if salesman had not jerked me around, & changed prices after he had me there I would be driving that instead of the truck I found a couple weeks later. so is that enough of a difference, a 68 bug, to a full sized Ford truck?

Like many I rode the Aztec hate wagon a while back but of late I feel I've been too harsh on it. I really want to pick one up on the cheap it seems like the sort of car you could really love for what it does. I think the Pontiac Aztec could be the modern Travels With Charley companion. I just want to grab an acoustic guitar and a pack of camels and sit under an untouched night sky in one, it's got the character for it

I think in terms of toys and features the Aztek is one of the greats of it's era. I mean a pull out cargo tray? A center console that doubles as a removable cooler? A built in air compressor? A seatback-mounted backpack? Controls for the stereo built into the rear of the vehicle for tailgating? A freaking tent?! All that stuff is brilliant and awesome in my book.
