Just wondering if you guys have a preference either way for the turbine wheels or the throwing star covers? My car came with the throwing star wheels on it but I also got a set of turbine fan wheel covers as well. The actual M system wheels are modular black forged wheels that you can bolt either cover onto. Was debating getting rid of the turbines since they seem to fetch a pretty penny these days. On the other hand, it feels more "complete" having both and the turbines are period-correct for the year of the car (1990).
Turbines:
Throwing stars:
Was just wondering since I got the winters on last week. Those are BBS Style 5s, although they're a little rough right now. Ordered new roundel stickers for the center caps.
Curious about your opinions. The turbines were derided as looking like whitewalls back in the day but popular opinion seems to have come around on them. Probably because they're comparatively rare these days although a set of throwing star covers are NLA from BMW.
Have an original ///M5 non-tricolor door sill shot for your time. Didnt realize that they went to the tricolor in 1991 until I bought the car.

as a side note, any idea how much style 23 wheels are going for these days? I have a set I need to get rid of.

I vote Turbines, they're what are supposed to be on the car, and the function over form thing is just too cool.
Sure they kinda make your car look like it has white walls on, but if that's just too dorky, you could always give them to meeeeeee! I'd love a set for my e28.

Keep both and change when the mood fits. Turbines are classic though.

True. The throwing stars actually supposedly direct more air to the brakes than the turbines do though. Even though the turbines look more " functional".
What kind of E28?

Yea, I think it depends on how nerdy your sense of aesthetics are. I've got an '87 535is, currently it's wearing style 9's.

I vote Throwing Stars. The Turbines never did it for me, they're too small, look like hubcaps and so on.

Gah they're both so cool....
I'd go turbines just because they're a little bit cooler.
Just one run set for the summer and one for the winter.

The problem with that is that I'd have to swap them because they mount to the same wheel. The Style 5s are my winter wheels. I could swap them next spring though...

Throwing stars! Or the BBSs. Those look great on any BMW, past or present.

Haha it's mine too, you'd be surprised how attainable your dreams are! Now I'm dreaming of an e28 M5...

e28 M5 might be less attainable I suppose, but an M535i could do! How are e28s on maintenance?

Real M535's (as in euro) are actually harder to come by than M5's, believe it or not.
They're a dream. Monstrous engine bay, pretty minimal computer controlled components, parts are pretty attainable, over all pretty forgiving, and has one of the best online support forums in the world. I've had three of them so far, and done probably half of the maintenance on them myself, including things like suspension work and head work, and I'm by no means a mechanic. They're also stupid reliable.

Alright. Back to scouring the internets for an e28 and trying to convince my wife of the merits of a 20+ year old car!

Scour away! Glad I could instigate. I should add to the above that it gets appreciative looks and shouts wherever it goes, and is a joy to drive.
