So, I couldn't sleep. Went for a drive. I accidentally ended up on a mountain. (Hey, it was dark! Cut me some slack!)

Kinja'd!!!

This road goes up to and past the Sandia ski area, and it is about 17 miles of 2nd gear switchbacks.

And in the ST, it was easily the second-most fun I've ever had in a car. (When you've drifted an E60 M5 around a wet skidpad, that #1 spot is pretty secure)

The little devil has grip for days. Even on corners where I was having trouble remaining upright, it just stuck. This is in 25 degree weather on summer tires, too. I can't imagine what it's like in the proper temperature range.

The ST is amazingly neutral in its handling in a way that I never thought a FWD car could be. Turn-in is sharp and quick, and you never get a hint of understeer, even accelerating mid-corner.

The engine note, too, is intoxicating. In normal driving, it sounds good if not exceptional. Once you give it the beans, though, a special resonator somethingorother opens up and you get nice, amplified (naturally!) induction noise, giving the car a wonderful sort of growl. It's somewhere between the Subaru burble and the Honda Tube Full of Bees.

That's all for now.

Congrats on the ST! I wish we had actual twisty roads in this area. How many miles does she have now? How useful are the brakes?

The brakes are quite effective, although on the downhill leg I was definitely noticing some fade.

Welcome to the wonderful world of FWD cars that can handle. That's why I never understood the absolute hatred some people have for FWD car. Maybe it's because their reference is a base model Corolla or Camry. But al the FWD cars I ever drove could actually handle. Whether it's a car with chassis developped for it or just a base model economy car.

Also, as you noted I believe the Eagle F1s are not recommended under 40 degree temps.

Might want to order a set of winter tires to slap on the stock rims, and then get a dedicated set of wheels and stickies for spring/summer/fall.
