I know people here who have classics that put them up in storage right about now.....I drove my Torino on/in ice last year. Am I stupid or ballsy?
This was in late November of last year. Before Mag500's and fixed springs.

Honestly, some of the safest I've felt on the snow has been in old cars with modern snow tires.

I think that could definitely matter. Tires > many many things.

Ballsy, because its other drivers who are stupid that you need to worry about. I could put the snow tires that I have laying around onto my Miata and drive it around campus during the winter. But I am too worried about all the college drivers toting around on bald ass tires.

I'd say put it in storage if you worry about the car excessively, but if you'd like to winter drive it. Go ahead and do that!

Yes. You do what no mere semi-enthusiast is brave enough to do. A hero of your kind.

In their defense... I think some of it is fear of rust, too.

Rust is something that happens no matter what. There is little to no sheet metal for my car only floors for it and I drive the piss out of her sometimes.

No problem:
But this year I'm a hypocrite and did this because I'm at college and just restored the thing.

Now if its fresh off resto I can understand that. But My Torino cause I'm not home isnt getting driven but the Damn thing still truns over in once crank likes it ran yesterday. I hadn't driven it for a month.
Gave her a wash too.

I have no classics personally but there's a Scout and a Galaxie that just pretty shamelessly get driven. I don't think they're any most rusted than the stuff that doesn't get driven. We don't have that much road salt.

You're neither. What did people do in the seventies with their Gran Torinos? They drove them in the winter. Admittedly they may rust instantly depending on how well they're taken car of, but that's neither here nor there.

People did the same with everything else as well. SO why now do we baby our cars?

That is a damn good question. In fact i saw a mid fifties Buick Century 4 door today and i thought to my self, what if I put snow tires on that and drove it this winter?

Well the thing is we could die. Because no safety features. Or anyway to get out of big snow.

Nuts? Not at all.
I'd have it on the road until the first Salting. And maybe once or twice after. If weather permits.

I store mine for the winter, i also pull full coverage insurance for the winter to save some money. i do keep full coverage on my 33 ford in case we get a random nice dry day in the winter. luckily Oregon doesn't use salt on the roads for de-icing.

To that I'd usually say, look at how many of our parents survived. Also, you'd actually have to know how to bloody drive, not leaning on every god damn electronic piece of witch craft and electrickery like a crutch.
Props to you for knowing how to drive.

Its a well put together car with lots of power, driving the correct wheels with no extra 'features' tacked on to ruin the car. I am quite jealous of you.

ive driven my 98 Camaro ss in the snow, not much fun, the 33 ford has been in the snow by accident, the 68 i hope to never have it in the snow.
