Do you spend obsessing over mundane, relatively inconsequential parts for your car?

I've spent half my day trying to decide which hose clamps to buy for the Alfa. I have an air leak between the plenum and in the manifold and need to refurb the remaining Romablok clamps, then replace the crummy AutoZone worm gear pieces with something more like a t-bolt clamp. Rolled edges, uniform pressure. Stainless with stainless hardware. $8 per freaking clamp. I also need a new flex driver or some tool to snake around the fuel rail to get them tight.

This is not healthy.

I dream about A) having a car and B) having a car that occasionally needs work. All I want to do is work on a car.

I spent 40 minutes at Autozone last week contemplating which fuel filter to buy....so yes.

I don't exactly have money for a car or parts for a car.

Don't we all do that though?

Since it is an Alfa, and you will be replacing these again soon, probably, I would go with whatever is the easiest to replace or reattach when the next thing goes wrong.

Dude, just go to Home Depot. That's where I got my hose clamps. They weren't even $1 each, and guess what? They haven't come off yet. You can get just about any size you need. Cold air intake? Coolant hoses? It doesn't matter. They just work.

That's part of the problem. The plenum also likes to rock, so seating it is a real chore. It's easier to fasten the hoses to the plenum, then attach the whole assembly to the manifold. Except then, it's impossible to reach the bolts/screws at all, thanks to the fuel rail. Specialized tools are usually required, but I'm looking for alternative methods.

I just want to hand off my 944 to someone who'll make a nice, unleaky Spec out of it and buy another Type 3 for LeMons domination. Oh, and not have to fiddle with either; just drive. Is that too much to ask?
