Following up on !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! from last week. I should just do the fucking thing myself. They are putting in skylights with a rough opening of 44 1/2 inches, and framed them to 48, so the lights just fall through. Notice the correct measurements written right on the footers...

That's some SMRT, there. Sounds fixable with two thicknesses of 2x4, and in some cases you *would* increase the framing, but you generally plan to get that part right before you cut the hole. Oversize hole through sheathing = doing it wrong.

that is an astounding level of incompetence. Those guys should stick to ditch digging, though they might not know which end of the shovel to use.

oh yeah they are cribbing it up now, not my idea of a professional job though when you had all day in the warm and dry to get it framed out though. I heard they were in a rush to get done before the football games though

Ugh. A stupid, amateurish move that could come back to haunt later on. Hope they at least get the remedial solutions right, but I wouldn't hold my breath. Every time I have to deal with a contractor I remember why I do everything myself on my own house (except for gas lines as insurance disallows it, and anything upstream of the service panel as the utility disallows it).

This happens when you have too many people shuffling around from one task to the next.

When the contractor you hire is more worried about how his shitty football team is doing over doing a correct/complete job the it's time to fire that contractor and find another.. Even if it's in the middle of the job. Screw that attitude..

I agree, I brought it up to the ownership but they likely wont do shit. Just so happens I used to do most of Velux warranty work in my state when my body still could do manual labor (before I went back to a desk job). So I think they are sick of having me up here knowing what I am actually doing. Agreed, shitty attitude

Ugh, yeah, I work in roofing (commercial, flat roofing tapered systems) and our company (a roofing supply company.. Think Lowe's but nothing but roofing) and I always get calls from our desk guys/salesmen asking me why their contractor is returning so much Tapered Material from one of my designs.. It's because more than likely they didn't follow my design and they are trying to save money.. But in 4 years when they aren't around anymore because they did shitty worksmenship the roof will begin leaking or there will be standing water on the roof.. Ugh.. I hate contractors....

Ugh. Having grown up in the construction industry, I wish I could say that was uncommon. I wish I could say that.

yeah, I am actually going to go out there tomorrow and make sure they installed the flashing kits correctly and didnt ding them up, and that ice and water shield is used correctly. It sucks, but I feel it is a service to my company to not have to eat the bill when it leaks.

Wow. That's pure brilliance. Sound like the people that built my brother's house. It's got weird ass dimensions, and the exterior walls are stepped in a couple of places.
