Previously a 1:39.3 (Vettle '12) in the old V8 car. Nico Rosberg set a 1:36.067 today around the 3.41mi track using 40% less fuel and sound lol :]

That equals around 127.87mph avg. speed

Question is.... why are they slower on all the other tracks? The climate conditions were pretty much perfect. But the aero restrictions, fuel rate, and crappy tires this year are not helping times. Were records broken on any other tracks this year?

I believe the Toyota TS040 LMP1 cars were putting down 1:48's at best Lone Star LeMans.

With the Verizon Indycars testing recently, I'd really like to know what those were running and what speeds they were hitting on the straight. I think Nico was around 207mph before turn 12.

NASCAR needs to get their asses out there.

yes!!!! they need to have them run at COTA. Or at least have one do a bunch of fast laps. They are not too far away in the Dallas area. I'm sure they can send a Sprint car down for a few laps

Why are the LMP1s slower? Weight?

I'm thinking tires, brakes, and chassis. Weight is higher but with 1,000hp, it should even things out in the power to weight ration department. They took corners mean but an F1 is just elite. I'm sure LMP1 can to NASCAR and V8 Supercars though. Indycars are quicker than LMP1 cars though I think

This blew my mind today. It was like a 'coming attractions' for next season.

NASCAR won't go to any track that isn't owned by International Speedway Corp or Speedway Motorsports Inc. 20 of the 23 tracks they visit are owned by those two companies.

That means there are 3 that don't comply with what you just said. Indy, WG, and Sears Point or whatever it is this year are probably those three.

very true. You are there right? I'll be in my black OPPO shirt.

Indy, Pocono, and Dover actually.

The only two road courses the cup series has visited in the past 20+ years are the two road courses owned by ISC/SMI. Gee, that's not suspicious at all ;)

Yes! I'm running a bunch of simulators at COTA so I'll be running around all day. I'll keep my eyes peeled for a giant furry blue monster in an Oppo shirt.

WGI has been owned by ISC since the 80s

Even though the cars are behind the previous generation on average, I'm of the mind that within another year or 2 they'll be much faster. As teams get a chance to optimize the engine output and match it to the tires, they should be able to throw down some great times!

It's one of those things I learned once while complaining about the lack of road courses. Fun to pass the knowledge along sometimes. That said, I do feel like there's a way to add road courses without having to worry about ISC/SMI complaining: For the tracks that are visited twice, run one of the two rounds on that track's road course. Most speedways have one

So much less sound... but still awesome! We're in front of the turn 9 grandstand all day Sunday if you come this way (red hat and black three-pedal BlipShift shirt). Hope to run into you!

we stayed at turn 1 the whole time. My dad's knee was hurtin. Good race but the sound was soooooooo disappointing. Absolute rubbish. Indycars made my ears bleed, F1 were like street cars as far as sound is concerned

Yeah, was a bummer. Glad I heard the V8s in person in 2012.
